Prior to establishing a publishing company, my wife Polly and I were in the mortgage business for 25 years, including building an office from the ground up starting in 1994.
For the past couple of years, God has been stirring within us the desire to begin a new work. We also had a desire to help people, but didn’t understand how that would figure into God’s plan for us. We began to pray fervently as we waited for God to reveal to us the details of His will. We were open to a variety of opportunities that presented themselves, but none provided us with God’s confirming peace.
We decided to close our mortgage office at the end of July 2010. Three weeks before we were going to be out of work, on the very same day, the very same morning at different times, God gave both Polly and I the exact same idea. When we realized that we were thinking the very same thing, we talked about it all day and into the evening. God was leading us to start a publishing company.
The amazing thing is that we have never waivered. God provided us with unity of purpose from day one. On that first day He blessed us with the name for the company, Bound by Faith Publishers.
We continued to pray about the details of the business, committing the work to the Lord and requesting His direction. From the beginning, each step of the way, God has provided us with what we have needed including resources, friends and family to assist and encourage us on this journey. And yes, from the beginning He provided us with authors, people like ourselves who desire to serve Christ and promote family values.
This new journey has not always been easy, but it has been rewarding. There is no greater blessing than to know that you are in the center of God’s will while effecting lives for His kingdom!
We share this story in order to honor the work of Christ in our lives and to encourage you in the journey you are on. Since God’s thoughts and ways are higher than ours, it can sometimes be challenging to understand the purpose in a particular season in life. Even though we may not always understand His ways, God asks us to fully trust Him.
Whatever you are going through right now, keep praying and keep trusting! Never give up on God. Remember, God is always with you. He is faithful and true and will accomplish His purpose in His perfect way and timing.
God’s vision for us was much greater than we could have ever asked or imagined. In addition to the privilege of helping people, God has established a business that will change lives for eternity. Thanks be to God and to God be the glory!
…says the Lord, “For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways. Isaiah 55:9 (NKJV)
