Need To Sugarcoat It
Ministry Update August 26, 2018
Since classes started at Missouri State University this last week, I witnessed there during the lunch hour on Wednesday. Toward the end of the message a student came over to talk to me. He had listened to a good portion of the open-air preaching. He walked up and said, “I like what you do here, but you don’t want to scare off the new students. You need to sugarcoat it.” I didn’t address his concern, we just talked a little bit. Then all of he sudden he laughed and said, “I guess you really can’t sugarcoat it, can you?” Then I told him that I was going to ask him where Jesus sugarcoated it and that I’d be happy to do the same. The best part was he figured out that you really can’t sugarcoat the Gospel and he came to this conclusion without me even addressing it.
Had a few mockers before this encounter. One guy just sat down right in front of me and started recording. He’s done this before and when I’ve asked him if he has a question, he just says no. Several of his buddies got a kick out of what he was doing, so they walked by him and congratulated him for mocking me. Another guy walked by when I said something about it’s Heaven or Hell and I’m pretty sure he said he chooses Hell. Of course anyone that says this has no idea of how horrible Hell really is. Another kid was kind of funny. He skated by my and said loudly, “Great you’re back.” I knew he wasn’t sincere about it and he wasn’t. As soon as he said that and skated in front of me, he just kept shaking his head side to side. May God convict and convert many students this school year.
Thank You For Handing These Out
Pastor Joshua and I had a great time witnessing Friday night. He had three mockers, including a passenger in a car that yelled for him to shut the f up as the car turned a corner in front of us. I couldn’t hear his first mocker and the last one wanted to know what he was saying, but he really just wanted to interrupt the preaching. Pastor Joshua just ignored him. While I was bringing a message a carload of girls drove by and one stuck her arm out and waved and yelled Hello. They actually drove by again later one. I don’t know what the other mocker that I had said as they drove by.
But we handed out Gospel tracts before and after we did open-air preaching. Pastor Joshua handed a tract to a young man that was deaf and he signed Thank you. Right after that he tried to hand a tract to a young girl, but her mom that was behind her immediately snatched it from her hand. The blessing of the night though was when Pastor Joshua handed a tract to a young lady walking by with her friend, they both walked back by later on and both made a point of thanking him for handing out tracts. They were really glad to see that it was a tract because they receive other literature downtown that isn’t so good. It was a nice way to end the night. May the Lord bless the messages and the Gospel tracts that were handed out.
