Mocking Jesus
Ministry Update December 25, 2016
Friday night Brian, Aaron and I preached downtown and it was a night full of people mocking Jesus. I brought a message from Luke 2 about the birth of Jesus, Brian preached on victory in Jesus and Aaron preached on Matthew 1, where the angel foretells the birth of Jesus and that He will save His people from their sins. We weren’t preaching Hell fire and brimstone messages, but many people still mocked Jesus.
Sing Instead of Preach
We sang a couple of hymns including The First Noel. I requested that we sing that one because my message was The First Noel from Luke 2. Right off the bat one of the musicians going into the bar across the street started yelling “keep singing.” In other words, he didn’t want to hear any preaching, but singing was fine. He mocked the whole time I preached and then off and on while the other guys preached.
A truck drove by several times and a passenger rolled down his window and mocked the preaching each time they drove by. One gentleman came up and listened while I was bringing a message and he was a great encourager. He shook my hand and Brian’s hand after I finished up, then he went on his way.
Electrified Wooden Instrument
Brian went next and a guy that had a homemade electrified wooden instrument kept trying to balance it and hold it up in the air. On the back, it said Christoff, so he scratched out the off part, so it just said Christ. The guy wanted us to record him, so Aaron recorded him for a bit. His name was Mike and he was very happy that Aaron posted the video to Facebook. May God save Mike if he truly isn’t saved.
Then Aaron preached and some more people mocked Jesus. One woman even stopped at the four way stop and yelled out her window that we needed to stop. I think the guy in the band across the street started mocking some more too. Earlier in the night, a fire truck stopped at the store/restaurant next to us and it looked like they were trying to help someone who maybe had drank too much. But we really couldn’t tell and after a while the firemen drove off.
Heartbreaking To See And Hear Mockers
It breaks our hearts when people mock us on Friday nights. Not because they are mocking us, but because they are mocking Jesus. We are just the messengers sharing the Good News out on the street in downtown Springfield. So when proud, God-hating people mock us, they really aren’t mocking us. They are mocking Jesus Christ. They are mocking the only Savior. They are mocking the one who suffered, bled and died for guilty sinners like all of us are.
We are all sinners. Some of us are sinners saved by grace and many others are sinners still lost, still dead in their trespasses and sins. We hate to see them rejecting the Good News. We hate to see them rejecting Jesus the Christ. Because if they die in their sins, they will suffer the torments of Hell for all of eternity. They will have rejected Jesus one time too many. They will have no more chances to repent and trust Jesus after they take their last breath. We hate to see those lost souls mocking Jesus because God will not be mocked. He may tolerate it for a short time, but eventually His mercy and grace runs out. May God have mercy on these Jesus mocker’s souls and grant them repentance and faith in our Lord Jesus.
(Merry Christmas! These updates are provided to encourage Christians to share their faith in Jesus with others. It isn’t always easy. You may get laughed at, mocked or even pushed around some. But what we go through is nothing compared to what Jesus endured for us true believers. He is worthy of all our praise. His precious name is above every other name and is so worthy of proclaiming to this lost and dying world. Will you share the Gospel with others?)
