Mockers Prove The Bible Right Yet Again
Ministry Update June 23, 2019
Erica and I witnessed downtown Friday night and it never ceases to amaze me, but mockers prove the Bible right yet again. Time and time again, mockers will walk by and mock and do exactly what the Bible says. Friday night was no exception. God’s word is a savor of life to those who are saved and it is a savor of death to those who are perishing. I love Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior and I love God’s Holy Bible and how God proves His word is true through those who mock Him.
We started off the night singing a couple of hymns. A young man stopped and listened to the first song. Then I brought a message about how the Gospel sounds like foolishness to those who are perishing. Right on cue, a couple that was across the street walked past us. The young woman flipped me off. I explained that she was flipping God off and not me. She just kept doing it. I pleaded with her to repent and trust Jesus, but she just kept flipping me off.
Then another couple walked toward us and that young woman stopped and said, “This is not necessary for God.” Then they walked on past us. I turned around and reminded her that Jesus said what you hear whispered in the ear, proclaim from the rooftops. She mouthed off something, then she cussed, using God’s Holy name as a curse word. I sarcastically told her that was quite Christ-like. Then she said, “Ooh, I’m going to Hell now. I’ll see you there.” To which I replied, “No you won’t, because I won’t be there.” I also pleaded with her to repent and surrender her life to Jesus.
Guy Started Toward Me
Then a guy in the parking lot across the street started toward me. He stumbled on the curb, but kept coming toward me. He was a big guy, but as he reached me, he stuck out his hand, so I shook his hand. Then he hugged me and yelled in my ear, “You’re right.” I thought to myself, I really didn’t need you yelling that in my ear. I could smell a strong smell of alcohol on him, but I just said thanks. He turned to head back across the street, that’s when Erica offered him a tract and thankfully, he took it.
After that I was explaining that we all had a birth date and we have a death date coming, but we don’t know when that will be. I said that we aren’t guaranteed our next breath. A couple was sitting at the stop sign near us and the young woman yelled across the driver that “I am guaranteed my next breath.” I again said we are not guaranteed our next breath, that’s why you need to repent and trust Jesus. She just laughed as they pulled away and kept repeating that she was guaranteed her next breath. To that I replied, that she doesn’t know, a drunk driver could hit them and she could die tonight.
We handed out a few tracts and a few New Testaments. I’m not sure what the deal was Friday night, but all three mockers were young women. Erica and I sang three more songs to end the night and a woman turned the corner toward the square really slow, then she stuck her arm out the window and waved at us. So we had an encourager to start the night and another one to end the night.
