There’s nothing like a glass of cold water on a hot summer day when the temperature is near 100 degrees. Likewise, a hot bowl of soup can do wonders for you when you are sick.
But lukewarm? Take a lukewarm shower next time and see what you think. Or eat some lukewarm food. I was heating up some left over homemade macaroni and cheese the other night. I thought I’d heated it up enough but it wasn’t, it was lukewarm. It didn’t taste good at all. I had to go back and reheat it some more.
Jesus wasn’t a very big fan of lukewarm either. Look what He says in Revelation 3:15-16: “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot: I would you were cold or hot. So then because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue you out of my mouth.” Then in verse 19 Jesus says, “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.”
These are very strong words from Jesus Christ. If you are a Christian and you are not on fire for Jesus then others may see you as a hypocrite. If you are not passionate about Jesus Christ, then you may be hindering others from believing in Jesus.
If you are not zealous for Jesus, please read the Bible every day. Pray and meditate on the Word of God. He speaks to us through the Bible. Read it every day (even if you only read one verse) and let the Holy Spirit convict you and set you on fire. John Wesley once said, “Catch on fire with enthusiasm and people will come for miles to watch you burn.” Sounds like pretty good advice to me.
