Last Day Of Your Life
My friends and I have been witnessing downtown on Friday nights, I just haven’t been writing updates about our witnessing encounters. Doug and I witnessed last Friday night and we typically walk around a two block area a couple of times on Friday nights. We typically stay a while at the corner of Walnut and South Street. While we were handing out tracts there, an ambulance came racing past us and a few minutes later an EMT vehicle also went flying by. We could see the flashing lights several blocks away West on Walnut Street, but we couldn’t tell if it was a car accident or what exactly was going on. Then a young girl went by us on a scooter and she said that she thought her friend’s house was on fire. We said a quick prayer and went on witnessing.
I found out a couple of days later that unfortunately a woman died in that house fire. I don’t know if she was a follower of Jesus or not, but I seriously doubt if she woke up that morning and said, “Today, I’m going to die in a house fire.” I sincerely doubt that she thought she was going to die that day. But she did. It turned out to be the last day of her life. One day, will be the last day of my life. One day will be the last day of your life. Will you be ready when that time comes?
Why Do We Have To Die?
Why do we die? We die because we’ve all sinned. The soul that sins, it shall die (Ezekiel 18:20). We die because we all have sinned. Adam and Eve sinned in the garden of Eden and every mere mortal has sinned since then. We have all sinned and fallen short of God’s glory (Romans 3:23). God made each and every one of us after His own image and all of us have marred that image. God is so Holy and righteous, that even a little white lie is enough to separate us from God. He is that Holy!
Since we all have a birth date and we will have a death date, the real question becomes: Are you prepared to meet your Maker? (Amos 4:12). Well, are you? Are you truly prepared to meet the great Creator God, the Holy, righteous, just God? Sadly, many people will answer that they are because they thing they are basically good. They haven’t murdered anyone. They aren’t seral rapist, mass murders or truly evil, like some people. But being basically good isn’t the standard. We can’t compare ourselves to other people to see how good we are.
No, God’s standard is perfection. God is that Holy! I don’t know you and you don’t know me, but we both know that neither of us is perfect. If it takes perfection to stand in the presence of God in all his Holiness and glory, then we are not ready to meet our Maker. We are not ready to meet Him if we are counting on our own goodness, our own righteousness. None of us are righteous. The Bible says, no not one (Romans 3:9-12).
Are You Ready To Face God?
If today ends up being the last day of your life, are you ready to face God? The Bible says that it is appointed unto man once to die, but after this the judgment (Hebrews 9:27). What will you do with your sins on Judgment Day? What are you counting on to save you from the wrath of God? For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness (Romans 1:18).
Don’t count on our own righteousness to save you. Don’t count on good works. Don’t foolishly count on doing more good than bad. Don’t count on any false religious leaders to save you. Count on Jesus Christ alone. We’ve all sinned against God and our sin separates us from the love of God. If you die in your sins, you will be separated from God’s love for all eternity in a very real place called Hell. It is a place of weeping and gnashing of teeth. It’s place where unrepentant sinners are tormented day and night. They have no rest.
All Unrepentant Sinners Go To Hell
Hell is an awful place, but it is the place where God sends all unrepentant sinners. Don’t foolishly die in your sins and go there. Instead, recognize that you have sinned against God. That you have broken His commandments (See the 10 Commandments). Even though we’ve all sinned and we all deserve eternal punishment in Hell, God made a way of escape and that way is through Jesus Christ the Lord. Jesus did what you and I cannot do. Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life. Jesus always obeyed the will of God the Father. Jesus never sinned in His thoughts, words or actions.
Yet, He willingly went to the cruel cross in our place. Jesus suffered horrendously on the cross. God poured His wrath, His anger over sin out upon His own sinless Son. That shows you how much God hates sin! Jesus suffered, bled and died on the cross. He was buried and rose again from the grave three days later. Jesus defeated sin, death, Hell and Satan. Salvation, eternal life is offered to all who repent and believe the Gospel.
Recognize That You Have Offended God
O recognize that you have offend God by your lying, cheating, stealing, lusting and coveting. Confess your sin to God. Acknowledge that you can’t save yourself. Cry out for God to save you. Put your faith, your trust in Jesus Christ alone to save you. Trust in His finished work on the cross to save you. Repent and surrender your life to Jesus Christ – the King of kings and the Lord of lords. Then you will truly be ready to meet your Maker on the last day of your life.
While Doug and I were witnessing at the corner of South and Walnut last Friday, during the same time the ambulance was heading to the house fire, we encountered three mockers right in a row. We both tried to hand tracts to some people walking by and a woman looked down and said, “Is that religious sh__?” A young girl took a tract from me, but when she realized what it was, she held it between her thumb and finger and promptly walked over to a nearby trash can and dropped in there. Then a guy refused a tract and yelled back, “I believe in Lillith”. I replied, “Lillith can’t save you. Only Jesus saves.” I wonder how these same three people would have acted if they knew that Friday night was going to be their last day of their lives?
Believer Are You Ready To Meet God?
Maybe you are reading this and you are truly a follower of Jesus. One day will be the last day of your life as well. Are you truly ready to meet God? I ask this question because John MacArthur passed away on July 14, 2025. He was faithful to God, faithful to his wife and faithful to his church. John MacArthur finished the race well. Can you (fellow believer) and I say the same? In this last week, I was aggravated with my wife and spoke to her with an unkind tone. I also watched a movie with blasphemy and foul language in it. I would not have wanted one of those days to be the last day of my life.
Once we are saved, we are not sinless. We will not be sinless in these mortal bodies. But the Bible says that we are to be holy because God is Holy. Is that your desire Christian brother or sister? Are we living lives that are pleasing to God? Are we truly ready to meet our great God? My desire is to finish the race well and to truly be ready to meet my Maker on the last day of my life.
Over 150,000 people die every day in this world. One day will be my last day. One day will be the last day of your life. Are you ready? If you are a follower of Jesus, are you living your life for the One who saved you? If Jesus is not your Lord and Savior, you most definitely are NOT ready to meet your Maker. If this is you, please repent of your sins and surrender your life fully and completely to Jesus Christ the Lord. One day, someday, will be the last day of your life.
(The local news originally reported that a man died in the fire. Of friend of mine knew the victim and told me that it was a woman who died in the fire. The post has been updated to reflect this).
