The Bible refers to the promised land of the Israelites in the Old Testament as the land of milk and honey. The phrase milk and honey makes me think of a nation of plenty. A nation with many resources and a country that is blessed by God.
Then all of these descriptions make me think of the United States of America. I believe our great nation has been greatly blessed by God over the years.
But are we still a blessed and favored nation today? Watch the news tonight or read the newspaper to see. How many times do you hear about a parent killing their own children in our country? (In the past month, we’ve had a couple of fathers in this area that have been accused of killing their own kids – right here in the good ole Ozarks!)
Look at all the murders, thefts, gang violence, pornography, sexually explicit movies and t.v. shows, etc. that we have in America. So should we really be surprised if God doesn’t bless America anymore? America no longer blesses God.
You might say to yourself, what can I do? I’m just one person. The way we can change things is one person at a time. Let the change start with you, then your family and keep moving out from there. Next time you say, or do, or see something, ask yourself, “Will this bring honor to God?”
In 2 Chronicles 7:14, God gives us a wonderful promise: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sins, and will heal their land!
Is America the land of milk and honey? I believe we once were and I believe we can be again. I pray that we get right with God and that He heals our land.
