Kelly Blessed Many Times
Ministry Update December 17, 2017
Friday night it was great having Kelly join me witnessing in downtown in Springfield, MO. But Kelly was the one who received “many blessings.” Yes, Kelly was blessed many times. What I mean by that is what Jesus said in Matthew 5:11 that you are blessed when people insult and persecute you falsely for His sake. Well, Kelly was blessed many times Friday night.
One car drove by while Kelly was preaching and the young man in back cussed Kelly and/or mocked God three different times. The last time he ended his tirade by saying f-you to Kelly. The whole time Kelly was gently preaching about righteousness. Prior to that two girls walked into the apartment building across the street and one of them yelled shut the f-up right before the door closed after they went inside. Kelly politely thanked them. He also pleaded with the young man that mocked him three times to come back and talk to him, but he didn’t come back around.
Earlier while Kelly was bringing his message, a car drove the wrong way down the one way street right in front of us. So Kelly incorporated that into his message. He talked about how people are going the wrong way until they come to Jesus, since Jesus is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6). Before Kelly’s many blessings, it had been pretty quiet. When I brought a message about Love and Obedience to God, the man that frequently encourages us, walked by and shook my hand. We also handed out a few tracts throughout the night.
Merry Christmas! And This Is For You
Wednesday at MSU was finals week, so I just handed out tracts. I thank God that 300 tracts were taken. It actually surprised me that 300 people were willing to take tracts. Most of these students have been offered tracts throughout the semester. But I learned from Jerry the previous week at the Christmas Parade that when you say Merry Christmas, people seem to be more willing to take tracts from you. So I said Merry Christmas to pretty much every one, even those who refused tracts. I’d say Merry Christmas, this is for you and the majority of people took a tract. I handed out What Is The Meaning Of Life tracts from Living Waters. So they were different than the tracts I’d handed out since the fall.
One young man came up to me and shook my hand and thanked me for what I do at the campus. Then he surprised me by asking if he could take a selfie with me. I had to laugh, but said sure. That was the first time a student had asked to do that. I recognized another student who walked by earlier and has made encouraging comments more than once this year. It was a fun lunch hour and I enjoyed mixing it up from the usual witnessing format.
(These updates are given to encourage Christians to share the Gospel with others. If you are unsure how to share your faith, then please order some Gospel tracts. There’s nothing easier than sticking your hand out and saying “Did you get one of these?”)
