Ray Comfort with Way of the Master says that God is not subject to time; God made time for man (paraphrased). I’ve been thinking about this and a couple of Bible verses come to mind.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” The second verse is “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom” (Psalm 90:12).
Revelation 10:6b states, “that there should be time no longer.” So is time running out of time? Is time as we know it winding down? I don’t have an answer to these questions, but I think it’s fun to think about it.
It may not be as much fun thinking about running out of time ourselves. We are all going to die and we don’t know when that day will be. Could be 20 years from now, or could be tomorrow or even tonight. I went to Dallas with seven other guys to witness at the Super Bowl this year. We left the day after a blizzard hit our area. We left on February 3, 2011 to go to Dallas. We were stuck in traffic on I-44 for quite some time at Joplin, MO. We were unaware at the time that traffic was really backed up on the interstate because of the horrible car wreck in Miami, Oklahoma. We were unaware that three people had just died in that accident.
Do you think those people knew that morning that they were going to die that day? Of course they didn’t. We don’t know when we are going to die, but we do know that we are going to die.
So the question of where you are going to spend eternity is of much more importance than whether we will recognize time the same way we do now. Where you spend eternity is the most important question you will ever answer. Getting this right is of utmost importance.
A lot of people are trying to earn their way into heaven. Some religions teach that you have to continually do good works. They tell people that they have to do good works but don’t tell them exactly how many good works they have to do because the leaders don’t know the answer. They don’t know the answer because that is not what God requires of us. Other religions say you have to do more good than bad during your life time. How in the world do you measure that?
Jesus Christ came to seek and save the lost. He came for the repentance of men. This is why Christianity is different from every other religion in the world. It is not works based. It is based on Jesus Christ and Him alone. We are all sinners and our sin separates us from God. There is nothing we can do on our own to change that. We can never be good enough. We can’t work our way to heaven. Sin is sin. Even one little white lie is a sin. That is enough to keep you out of heaven.
That’s why Jesus suffered and died on the cross for guilty sinners. We have all broken God’s Law the 10 Commandments. There is nothing we can do to undo our sin. The Bible says if you break one commandment you have broken all of them. The punishment for breaking the 10 Commandments is eternity in a very real, very torturous place called Hell. God doesn’t want to send you there.
He does ask that you repent from your sins and put your faith in Jesus. Salvation is a free gift from God. There is nothing you can do to earn this gift. You need to turn from your sins and put your trust in Jesus. Surrender your life completely to our Lord and Savior Jesus. Then God won’t have to punish you for your sins. Jesus bore your sins for you as long as you accept this gift. Please don’t put this off. You never know when you will run out of time. The Bible says that today is the day of salvation. Won’t you choose salvation through Jesus today? Before you run out of time?
