We have a pond behind our house and we see Canadian geese all the time, but every now and then we’ll see a mallard, road runner or a blue heron. When one of these birds are across the pond they are hard to see with the naked eye. So we keep a pair of binoculars handy so we can see these beautiful creatures that God has made. We have to keep turning the lever on the binoculars until the birds can clearly be seen – until they come into focus.
Bringing binoculars into focus reminds me of what Jesus said in Matt. 6:22 “The light of the body is the eye: if therefore your eye be single, your whole body shall be full of light. In verse 23 He went on to say “But if your eye be evil, your whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you be darkness, how great is that darkness!”
These are powerful Bible verses! Is your eye single? Is your eye fixed upon God? Are you focused on God? Does God consume your thoughts, your desires, your time? Is God first in your life? Or is your eye evil? Do you covet worldly possessions and worldly pleasures?
You can’t have it both ways. You can’t focus on God and the world at the same time. One will rise to the top while the other decreases. So again, where is your focus? Do you have God in focus or out of focus? Are you focusing on God through Jesus Christ our Lord?
I catch myself every now and then getting caught up in worldly desires. Oh God, please change my heart! Make my heart desire You and You alone through Jesus my Lord! Help me to abide in Christ (John 15:4-8). Dear Heavenly Father, please help me to keep my focus on You and I ask that You use me to help further your kingdom. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
