I’m Already Going To Hell
Ministry Update July 17, 2022
We praise God that there were 11 of us witnessing downtown Friday night. There were several mockers, including one guy that yelled “Abort babies” even before we started open air preaching. Others yelled things, revved their engines or honked their horns to disrupt the preaching of the Gospel. We walk by and drive by mockers. The walk by mocker yelled, “Love is love.” One guy walked by me with two little kids and he refused a tract. As he walked on past me he turned around and said “I’m already going to Hell.” I said “Yes you are and that’s the point, we don’t want you to die in your sins and go to Hell. Instead, we want you to repent and trust Jesus”. He just kept on walking.
Conner and Trevor brought messages after I brought a short one. But the night was mainly about conversations and we praise God for that. I believe as the apostle Paul said, by all means save some (1 Corinthians 9:22). So I believe in open air preaching, holding signs and handing out tracts. But I also believe that the real field work is in one to one conversations and there were plenty of those. Matthew got there before anyone else and he walked over to 6 or 8 homeless people that were about a half a block away from our witnessing spot. I think he literally spoke to each and every one of them over the next two hours. We praise God for that!
Trevor, Elly and their two daughters held signs and Tyail also held her sign Friday night. Reed, Trevor and Trevor’s oldest daughter talked to a homeless guy for quite a while. Throughout the night several of us walked over and checked on Matthew as he talked to the homeless people. I was headed that way and another homeless guy named Jason caught me before I got over there. We talked for a while and he asked for prayer. After that, I brought Jason and a couple of other people some water.
The Unpardonable Sin
Then I made my way over to Matthew where he was talking to a young woman and a young man. I think they have been homeless for about a year. She was worried that she had committed the unpardonable sin and Matthew asked me to talk to her about that. I’ve several pastors say over the years that if you are worried about it then you haven’t committed it. Your conscience isn’t seared over. I explained to her that ultimately the unpardonable sin is unbelief in Jesus. So she can still repent and surrender her life to Jesus. Our Lord was talking about those who attributed His miracles to Satan instead of to God. John Calvin explains that people who commit the unpardonable sin do so “with evil intention, resist God’s truth, although by its brightness they are so touched that they cannot claim ignorance”.
The four of us talked for a while until the woman went back to talking to Matthew and the man started talking to me. It was hard for Matthew or I to get a word in because they both wanted to talk, but we shared God’s truth with them when we could – a little here and a little there. Matthew had already given them tracts, but I still pressed another one in the man’s hand before they walked away. I was going to give him a Bible, but he said that he already had one. I encouraged him to read the Bible every day.
(Praise God for Matthew, Trevor, Elly, their two girls, Brad, Conner, Joshua, Reed and Tyail for coming out Friday night to witness. These updates are provided to encourage Christians to share the glorious Gospel with others. Hand out tracts, share your testimony. Tell others how God saved a sinner like yourself and how they too can be saved – through repentance and faith in Jesus.)
