Ministry Update August 30, 2015
Last Friday night while Aaron was street preaching a young man came up and mocked God. I talked to him for some time while our group sang hymns to end the night. As he walked away, he said to me “I will give Jesus a fair hearing and then I will…”
But before I tell you what the young man said, I will start with the beginning of the night. Aaron posted this on Facebook and I want to share what he said here: “Very eventful night, had a lady come up to Kelly Piersall, while Dennis Vance was preaching, she said, “I don’t know about the man preaching, but there is this hell fire and damnation preacher who preaches on the corner of South and Walnut. All he preaches is hate.” Kelly looked at me standing nearby, ” You mean him?” She looked at me a little bewildered. I proceeded over to her and asked her “Ma’am, do you HATE sin?” She said “no” Then for the rest of the conversation she threw out the f-bomb every few sentences…while telling us how her church helps the homeless. YES! HELPING THE HOMELESS RIGHT INTO HELL. Jesus didn’t come to start homeless shelters….He came to give the homeless an eternal place in heaven by Repentance and FAITH!”
There are so many people who are deceived. There is nothing wrong with doing good works, but good works do not save you. Giving people food and shelter are great things to do, but feeding people with Living Water is even better. Why not share the glorious Gospel while you are helping them out? Why not give them the wonderful words of life – that lasts for eternity, not just for a short period of time?
Kelly and Aaron talked to this professing Christian woman longer than I preached, so Erica, Diana and Elise and I sang a few hymns before Kelly brought a message about Judge Not Lest Ye Be Judged. (Probably the verse we hear quoted more often than any other). We handed out tracts while Kelly preached. I talked to Don. He was walking by us with his wife and three kids. They all took tracts and I asked them where they go to church. After Don told me I asked if he would share his testimony with me. He said that he was saved in prison and that he wanted to raise his children the right way. We had a good discussion about resources and how important it is to counter the devilish evolution and other popular culture themes that our kids are exposed to. It was nice to talk to a fellow believer. After Don shared his testimony with me, I shared mine with him. I share my testimony even with people who say they are Christians because you never know if someone is a false convert (like I was for 33 years) and Don’s oldest son listened too.
While Aaron preached, Erica and I walked around the edge of the square and handed out tracts. Near the end of Aaron’s message was when the young atheist walked up spouting off nonsense. He wanted to talk about science and give me what he thought were parables that show that God is immoral. I kept telling him that I only wanted to talk about Jesus and that when he claims that God is immoral that he is placing himself above God. He blasphemed God horribly, but none worse than his last statement to me when he said that nothing happens to us after we die; but if he is wrong, he said: “I will listen to Jesus and give Jesus a fair hearing and then I will kill Him.”
I explained to the young man as he walked off that he had it backwards. He will not judge Jesus, but Jesus will judge him on Judgment Day and that he is already guilty. This young man didn’t hear my message earlier in the night, but just like the apostle Paul told the non-believing Jews in Antioch in Pisidia, I yelled to the young man that he had judged himself unworthy of everlasting life (Acts 13:46). Even as vile as he was, I still pray that God will break his hard heart of stone and give him a heart of flesh.

A couple of days before this I went to MSU during my lunch hour. I had a couple of drive by’s – students who mouth off and just keep walking. But I also had a young man come and sit on a bench out in front of me for a good part of the message and a gentleman walked by and looked over and gave me a thumbs up. I was hoping that I would get a chance to talk to Britt again this week, but he didn’t stop this time and I didn’t see him walk by me.
(This update is being shared to encourage Christians to share their faith with others. The time is evil and the days are short. If you are truly saved, don’t hoard everlasting life to yourself. Share the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ with others. Exhort others to repent and believe the Gospel. Plead with lost souls to call upon the name of the Lord and be saved.)

Wow. You know, it should not surprise me about the boldness and evil things that people say, but what the young man said about giving Jesus a fair hearing and then he will kill him was terrible. He has it so backwards. I pray he repents.
Thank you for your report, Dennis. Make God get the glory.
