Is it easy for you to forgive someone who has wronged you? Really done you wrong? Treated you badly? Someone who did you harm?
I’m asking these questions because we have all treated God wrongly (whether we know it or not; whether we acknowledge it or not).
You may be thinking, “How have I treated God wrongly?” Well, every time you sin you have wronged God. Have you always put God first in your life? How many lies have you told? Have you ever lusted after someone? Have you ever hated anyone? Have you ever coveted anything?
None of us have kept the 10 Commandments. God knew we could never keep them. He gave them to us so we could see ourselves as we really are (like looking in the mirror). So we could see that we don’t measure up to God’s perfect standard.
By looking at ourselves compared to the 10 Commandments, we also can see how righteous, perfect and Holy God really is. You see, God does measure up to the perfect standard of the 10 Commandments. It is part of His nature.
The great news is that no matter how many of the 10 Commandments you have broken, no matter how many times you have broken them, God can forgive you. God will forgive you. If you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. You do this by asking God to forgive you of your sins, then turn away from your sins and put your trust in Jesus.
Then if you are harboring a grudge or resentment against someone, please let it go. Forgive them as God has forgiven you. You may think that it cost you too much to forgive someone who has wronged you. But look at what it cost God to forgive your sins. It cost Him the life of his Son. Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life and He suffered and died on the cross for our sins.
If you repent from your sins and put your faith in Jesus, you will be saved. God can then forgive you for your sins. The Bible says that without the shedding of blood, there is no remission (forgiveness) of sins (Hebrews 9:22). Through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, you can be saved, you can be forgiven. Then, go and forgive those who have wronged you. Who knows, maybe your forgiveness of someone who wronged you may lead to their salvation. If anyone has wronged you, please say, “I forgive you.” Let God’s loving grace flow through you to someone else.
Please note that I’m not suggesting that anyone stay in an abusive situation. If someone is abusing you in any way shape or form, please tell someone, please get help.
