How Do I Become a Christian?
God convicts you of your sins through your conscience. Your conscience bothers you when you realize that you have sinned against our Holy God. If you are not convicted by the Holy Spirit about your sinful nature, please go back to My Testimony or the Ten Commandments.
If God is convicting you right now and your conscience is bothering you, please continue. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” You need to recognize that you have broken the Ten Commandments and you need to understand that you are under God’s wrath for transgressing God’s Law (the Ten Commandments). He will send people who are guilty of breaking the Ten Commandments to Hell for eternity on Judgment Day.
You need to acknowledge that there is nothing you can do on your own to save yourself. Ephesians 2:8-9 states, “For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Ask For Forgiveness
God is loving, merciful and forgiving, but He is also just, Holy and perfect. Our sins separate us from God. Because God is perfect, He can’t tolerate sin. You need to ask God to forgive you for your sins (1 John 1:9).
Confess the Lord Jesus and Believe in Your Heart
Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life. He was falsely accused, beaten, suffered and died on the cross for sinners. We broke God’s Law and Jesus paid our fine. You need to acknowledge that Jesus took your punishment for you. Then you need to confess that Jesus is Lord. Romans 10:9-10 says, “That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved. For with the heart man believes to righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made to salvation. Believing is more than just intellectual knowledge. It means to truly believe in your heart.
Repent and put your Faith in Jesus Christ
Then you need to Repent – turn away from your sins and turn toward God. You also need to put your faith and trust in our Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 20:21). Romans 13:14 states, “Put on the Lord Jesus Christ.” You need to put Christ on like you would put on a winter coat before you go outside in freezing weather. Believing in the coat hanging in the closet won’t do you any good. You have to put the coat on before you go outside for it to do any good. Likewise, put your trust in Jesus. Proverbs 3:5 states, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding.”
Surrender Your Will to Jesus
You then need to surrender your will completely to Jesus. When you are saved (born again), God gives you a new heart. He takes away your heart of stone and softens your heart. You need to deny yourself and allow Jesus to truly be Lord of your life (Mark 8:34). Jesus said if you love me, you will keep my commandments (John 14:21). His commandments were,“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind,” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
