How good is your hearing? Have you ever taken one of those hearing tests where they check each ear individually and then both ears together? How about your kids? Have you ever noticed how their hearing isn’t too good when you ask them to do something they don’t want to do?
Jesus spoke many times about hearing. He said, “he who has ears let him hear.” He also told the parable about the different types of soil in Matt. 13:3-8. Jesus basically describes how people react to hearing the Word of God. Some people hear the Good News and they don’t understand it. Satan steers people away from the truth. Some people hear the Gospel and are excited at first, but then when trouble comes they don’t stand firm on the truth.
Still others hear the plan of salvation and seem to get it, but then they start worrying about the cares of this world (job, money, status, etc.) and they no longer are on fire for God.
Then Jesus describes the good soil hearers and He says that they understand the Good News and they bear good fruit.
So if you are a Christian, are you a good soil hearer? Are you producing fruit? Are you discipling someone? Are you sharing your faith with others? Are you reproducing yourself in others?
In James 1:22 we are admonished to be doers and not just hearers. Do you have an active faith in Jesus Christ? Do you hear Him calling you?
