I recently went out witnessing with some of the guys with Born of Him Ministries at Nixa Sucker Days (no they don’ think the customers are suckers, it is named this because they deep fry fish). We carried a sign with us that said, “Can we pray for you?” Yes we got a few strange looks and a few laughs but several people took us up on the offer to pray for them! I want to thank Carl with Bezeugen Ministries for the idea.
You may not feel comfortable walking around with a prayer sign around your neck. I completely understand. Although I have to admit that the thought crossed my mind that carrying a prayer sign for Jesus is nothing compared to the cross that Jesus carried for me.
Still, it is perfectly understandable that most people aren’t going to walk around with a prayer sign. But that’s alright. You don’t have to! But there is something that absolutely every Christian can do, we can all offer to pray with someone. If someone at your work or school is having a tough time or seems down, walk up to them and say “How can I pray for you?” You might be surprised on how many people will actually take you up on the offer. If they do ask for prayer, then offer to pray with them right there on the spot. No matter where you are, you can pray with someone.
Here’s the really cool part. Even if they tell you that they don’t want you to pray for them out loud – right there, you can still pray for them to yourself! God will still hear your prayer. You may not know what their specific problem is, but you can pray for God to be with them and to help them with whatever their problem is. God knows what they need.
God works in mysterious ways. You never know when praying with someone will have a powerful impact on their life. So let’s don’t hold God back. Be willing to be used by the Holy Spirit by offering to pray with those around you. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13). Ask God to give you the strength and the courage to pray with others. Ask God to give you His words when you pray with others then go out and pray!

Great post! This is just what I needed as I had a co-worker very recently ask me to pray for her! Very true, Jesus did so much more than we feel comfortable doing, I need to remember that. Thank you.

Katrina, thank you for your comment. I pray that God will give you His strength and courage to reach out to others. I also pray that God puts His words in your mouth as you pray for others. Amen
