Look at the lyrics by Philip P. Bliss listed below. Have you recognized your guilt before God? Do your sins seem vile to you? Do you recognize that you are helpless to save yourself? Only God can open your eyes to your sinfulness before you will cry out to the Savior.
Jesus, the spotless Lamb of God is the only Savior. Only Jesus can wash away your sins. Only Jesus can bridge the gap between God and man. Even though God loves us, our sins separate us from our righteous Father in Heaven (Isaiah 59:1-2). There is nothing, absolutely nothing that we can do to change that (Romans 3:23). We are helpless. There is nothing that we can do to get back in a right relationship with God.
Only God, in His great mercy, could bring us back into a right relationship with Him (Romans 5:8). But it was very costly. Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary, fully God and fully man. He was tempted in every way. But He never sinned in His words, His thoughts or His actions. He suffered a horribly cruel death on the cross for guilty sinners who put their faith in Him. On the third day He rose from the grave. Jesus defeated sin, death and Hell.
Only Jesus can save us from the eternal punishment that we deserve. God is so Holy and righteous that He cannot tolerate sin. If you die in your sins as an unbeliever, you will spend eternity separated from God in a very real place called Hell (Revelation 21:8). Jesus described Hell as a place where there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. It will not be the party place that some people mistakenly think that it will be. Instead, it will be a place of torment beyond imagination.
The Good News is Jesus can save you from your sins and from everlasting punishment. Because He bore our sins for us. He took our place. God’s wrath was poured out on Him while He hung on the cross. Jesus, the perfect, sinless One, took your punishment for you! But it isn’t enough to just intellectually know this. Salvation is a free gift (even though it was very costly to God), but you must receive this gift. You have to turn away from your sins and put your faith in Jesus (Acts 11:18). Trust in Him to save you. Surrender your life completely to Him. Then you too will gratefully say, Hallelujah! What a Savior! What’s stopping you from repenting and believing the Gospel right now?
