God Hears The Prayers Of The Righteous
Does God hear your prayers? A lot of people pray to God. Some people claim to be spiritual and they’ve told me that they pray to God. Even professing Christians who after talking with them for a while, even they figured out that they really weren’t saved. That they had never truly repented of their sins and surrendered their lives to Jesus. Sometimes these same people fall back on, “I pray to God after I sin and He forgives me.” But is this really true? Does God hear their prayers? Does God hear your prayers?
I’m asking these questions tonight because this is extremely important. Does Almighty God really hear your prayers? The Bible tells us that God hears the prayers of the righteous. So again, I ask you, does God hear your prayers?
The Lord Will Not Hear Me
Please listen to the following Bible verses about God hearing our prayers. Psalm 66:16-20 states: Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul. I cried unto him with my mouth, and he was extolled with my tongue. If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: But verily God hath heard me; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me. Please note the Psalmist says that God did not turn away from his prayer, but he also says: If I regard iniquity (sin) in my heart, the Lord will not hear me.
First Peter 3:12 says: For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. This verse reiterates that God hears the prayers of the righteous. God hears their prayers, but God is against those that do evil. Does God hear your prayers? Are you a righteous person? Maybe you are thinking, well I don’t know how righteous I am, but I’m not an evil person. Did you know that Jesus said all liars will have their part in the lake of fire and brimstone? (Revelation 21:8).
Two Different Things
Unfortunately, what you consider evil and what God considers evil may be two different things. God is so Holy that He cannot tolerate sin. All sin is exceedingly sinful to God. Habukkuk 1:13 (a) states: Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity. God cannot tolerate sin. So again, I ask you, are you a righteous person? Does God hear your prayers?
Proverbs 15:26-29 says: The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord: but the words of the pure are pleasant words. He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live. The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things. The Lord is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
God Even Judges Our thought Life!
Please don’t miss this, God even judges our thought life! Just the wicked thoughts of unrepentant sinners are an abomination to God. Even your ungodly thoughts are evil or wicked in the sight of God. These verses in Proverbs also tell us that God hears the prayers of the righteous, but He is far from the wicked. Now again, please don’t misunderstand the Bible, the wicked aren’t just mass murders or serial rapists. No, even unrepentant liars are wicked in God’s eyes.
Jesus healed a blind man when the Lord walked this earth 2,000 years ago. The religious leaders were upset because Jesus healed the man on the Sabbath day. They kept questioning the blind man repeatedly and he kept answering them with the truth. The man who had been blind, but was healed by Jesus said: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see (John 9:25). He also stated: Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he (Jesus) is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes. Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth (John 9:30-31).
Does God Hear Your Prayers?
I’ve quoted several Scriptures that show that God does not hear the prayers of the unrighteous, but He does hear the prayers of the righteous. Are you a righteous person? Does God hear your prayers? You say He does? What righteousness are you counting on as being a righteous person? The righteousness of Jesus is what we need and you obtain that righteousness through repentance and faith in Jesus.
The Lord Jesus is the righteous One. There is no other. The Bible says that there is none righteous, no not one. That includes you and me. Only the righteousness of Jesus can save you. Are you truly saved? Have you repented of your sins and surrendered your life to Jesus? If not, oh, do so tonight.
You see, we’ve all sinned and fallen short of God’s glory (Romans 3:23). The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). If Jesus is not your Lord and Savior, then all you are working for in this life is death and then you will face the second death The second death is everlasting torments in the lake of fire which burns forever Jesus says it is a place where the worm dies not and the fire is not quenched. Don’t foolishly work for death and everlasting torments.
Have You Ever Stolen Something?
Adam and Eve sinned in the garden of Eden and we’ve all sinned since then. You and I have all gone our own way, at one time or another. Jesus also says that all liars will have their part in the lake of fire and brimstone. He also says that lusting after someone is the same thing as committing adultery in your heart (Matthew 5:27-28). None of us have perfectly obeyed our parents and most of us have stolen something, even if it was something small. I stole a fishing bob when I was about 5 years old.
Folks, I hope you are seeing that God is Holy and you and I are not. There is nothing of ourselves that can make us righteous or right with God. That’s why we need a Savior. Jesus walked this earth 2,000 years ago and He did what you and I cannot do. The Lord never sinned, not one time. He always perfectly obeyed God the Father. Unlike you and me, Jesus never sinned in His thoughts, words or actions. You and I cannot say this same thing.
The Lord Jesus Was Beaten Unmercifully
Jesus willingly went to the cruel cross after being beaten unmercifully with 39 lashes across His back. Jesus was beaten, spit upon and a crown of thorns were platted on His head. The Lord suffered tremendous physical pain. But even worse than that, He suffered God’s wrath, God’s anger over sin as Jesus hung on the cross. Jesus bore the sins of sinful men and women as He hung on that cross and He hung there in agony for six long, torturous hours.
The Lord died there, was buried and rose victoriously from the grave three days later. Folks, the good news is that Jesus defeated sin, death, Hell and Satan and salvation is for all who repent and believe the Gospel. For everyone who repents and surrenders their life to Jesus. Oh, if God is convicting you over your sins, do not reject such a great salvation. Today is the day of salvation. Today is the day to get right with the Lord.
God Hears The Prayer For Salvation
God doesn’t hear the prayers of the unrighteous except for the prayer of salvation. Yes, God hears that prayer. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart (Jeremiah 29:13). The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit (Psalm 34:18). If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life (John 5:24). Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life (John 6:47). And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved (Acts 2:21).
If Jesus is not your Lord and Savior, call upon the name of our Lord Jesus and be saved. When you truly repent of your sins and submit your life to the Lord, not only do you receive eternal life, but then God hears your prayers. The true God, the God of the Bible then hears your prayers because He now sees you through the righteousness of Jesus. That is, if you are truly saved. If you truly are a follower of Jesus Christ our Lord. Does God hear your prayers?
