Fear God Give Him Glory Worship Him
Fear God, give Him glory, worship Him. No, I didn’t randomly pick these words. They are found in Revelation 14:7. Revelation 14:6-7 states: And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people. Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
It makes sense to read verse six before I talk about verse seven. In verse six, the Apostle John talks about an angel flying in Heaven and this angel has the everlasting Gospel to preach to those of us on earth. So the words fear God, give Him glory, worship Him have to do with the Gospel.
The Gospel Starts With The Fear of God
The Gospel starts with the Fear of God. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding (Proverbs 9:10). The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction (Proverbs 1:7). Are you foolish or wise tonight? Do you fear God or despise Him?
The Bible says fools despise wisdom. It also says that the fool has said in his heart, there is no God. I ask again are you a foolish person? Do you deny that God exists? Do you run around claiming there is no God? If so, God calls you foolish. Not me. God says it. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good (Psalm 14:1).
Many people in America don’t even believe God exists, let alone believe in Him. So one of the main problems we have in our country is that people don’t fear God. The Bible says many times that we are to fear God. But a lot of people don’t fear the Lord. You will miss out on salvation if you never reach the point where you fear God. O Fearing God is the first step. Recognizing that God is Holy and He is greatly to be feared.
God Is In Control
You only live on this earth as long as God allows you to do so. The moment He decides to remove His general mercy from you, that’s it. You can’t add one second to your life. God is in control. He is the great Creator and He commands all people everywhere to repent. You need to fear God tonight. You need to recognize who God is and acknowledge that He is the Master of your life and you are not.
When Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, the Lord directed them to Mount Sinai. Listen to this description of when the Israelites met God: And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled.
And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount. And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the Lord descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly (Exodus 19:16-18).
Don’t Let God Speak To Us Lest We Die
When God gave the Israelites the 10 Commandments, listen to what the Bible says: And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off. And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die (Exodus 20:18-19).
You see, they had a proper fear of God. They were afraid when they encountered the living God. The Israelites stepped back. They saw the fire, lightening and the noise surrounding God when He descended on Mount Sinai. To fear God means real fear. It’s not just reverence or respect, but real fear. Jesus said: But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him (Luke 12:5). We are to fear God because He is Holy and we are not.
Not only are we to see God as He really is – Holy and righteous; we also need to see ourselves, how we really are – rebellious sinners. That’s why God gave us the 10 Commandments so we can see that we really are sinners. Please listen to the 10 Commandments:
- You shall have no other gods before Me.
- You shall not make yourself any graven image.
- You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
- Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy,
- Honor your father and mother.
- You shall not kill.
- You shall not commit adultery.
- You shall not steal.
- You shall not lie.
- You shall not covet.
We’ve All Broken The 10 Commandments
Folks, none of us have kept the 10 Commandments. We’ve all broken them. Including my friends and myself. We are no better than anyone else. We’ve all broken the 10 Commandments. James says if you break one, you’ve broken them all. But we have all broken more than one commandment. We are guilty and there is nothing that you or I can do on our own to change that.
You can’t cover up your sins. You can’t hide your sins from God. He’s all powerful, all knowing and ever present. He even knows your thoughts – yes, even your wicked thoughts and those are sins too. God knows every lie you’ve ever told. Every time you stole something. He knows when you’ve murdered in your heart by being angry; also when you’ve lusted and coveted in your heart. Folks we are seriously, guilty criminals and there is punishment to come.
Give The Lord Glory
We are to give the Lord glory because the time of His judgment is coming. Do not be fooled tonight. There is judgment coming. God is angry with unrepentant sinners. His wrath abides upon you tonight if you have never repented from your sins and surrendered your life to Jesus.
Listen to what Jesus said: But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned (Matthew 12:36-37). Jesus confirms that there is judgment to come. He also says that your own words will justify you or condemn you on Judgment Day.
And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world. I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins (John 8:23-24). Don’t die in your sins and face God unprepared on Judgment Day.
Do not die in your sins as an unrepentant sinner. Repent from your sins and put your faith in Jesus. He is worthy of all glory. Why? Because Jesus left His throne in Heaven a little over 2,000 years ago. He was born of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary. Jesus walked this earth for approximately 33 years and He did what you and I could never do – He never sinned one time. Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life.
Yet, He laid down His life as a ransom for many. Jesus Christ took the punishment that we deserve. He never sinned, yet He died in the place of guilty sinners. Jesus was beaten beyond recognition. He was scourged with 39 lashes across His back by the cruel whip. The Roman soldiers beat him on the head with a stick. They spit in His face. Plucked His beard. They mocked Him and scoffed Him. Then they led Him up to Golgotha the place of the skull where they nailed His hands and feet to the old rugged cross.
Mocked Jesus
Jesus hung on the cross for six long, grueling hours. The religious leaders, the soldiers and the thieves mocking Him, at least until one of the thieves had a change of heart realizing that Jesus is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. While Jesus endured all this pain and suffering, He also had the weight of sinful man placed upon Him and God poured His righteous anger over sin out upon His own precious Son. Jesus endured unimaginable torments as He suffered, bled and died on that cruel cross.
But up from the grave He arose. Jesus rose from the dead three days later. Jesus defeated sin, death, Hell and Satan. God offers eternal life to everyone who repents and puts their trust in Jesus. The Lord gave His life for you. He commands and demands total surrender from you. Those of us who truly repent and trust Jesus, we must give up our rebellion against God. You must stop rejecting Jesus as Lord of your life.
Not only are we to fear God, give Him glory, but we are to worship Him. He is worthy of our worship because He is the one true Savior, the only begotten Son of God. Listen to what the Roman centurion said after Jesus Christ died on the cross. Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
Jesus Is Worthy
Jesus is worthy of our worship because He is the King of Kings. He is the Lord of Lords. He is the way, the truth and the life and no man comes to the Father except by him. Jesus is worthy of our worship because He is the only Savior of mankind.
We worship Jesus by singing praises to Him and about Him. True believers worship Jesus by singing hymns and/or contemporary songs. The Son of the living God is worthy of all honor, praise and glory.
Followers of Jesus worship Him by obeying Him. Jesus said if you love Me, keep my commandments. He also said deny yourself, pick up your cross and follow Him daily. Professing Christian, are you honoring Jesus tonight by your thoughts, your words and your actions? Are you truly following in the footsteps of the Master? Are you living for Him or living for yourself?
Greatest Form Of Worship
I personally think the greatest form of worshiping Jesus is sharing the Gospel with others. That’s what compels my friends and I to come out here. We are lifting up the precious name of Jesus. We love Him because He first loved us. He took our sins. He paid our sin debt. We can never repay Him. We can’t earn our salvation in any way, shape or form. Salvation is of the Lord and it is through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ alone.
We worship Jesus, the name above all names because He has forgiven us and granted us eternal life. My friends and I know where we are going when we die. It’s not so much about going to Heaven and avoiding Hell. No, it’s about spending eternity with the One who loved us. The One who saved us. The One who gave His life for us. Jesus, the One who took our sins upon Himself on the cross and gives us His righteousness. Oh, we love our Lord and we want to share the most wonderful gift all time with others. We don’t hoard it. Our goal is to share the Gospel with the whole world.
We know where we are going after we die. Do you? Have you admitted that you are a sinner? Have you confessed your sins and cried out for God’s mercy? My friends, have you repented from your sins and surrendered your life to Jesus? If so, then you are fearing God, giving Him glory and you are worshiping Him. If not, the guilt of your sins remains upon your own head (John 3:36). Oh, don’t foolishly die in your sins and go to Hell. Repent and put your faith in Jesus Christ. Call upon the precious name of Jesus and be saved. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
