We all sin. Even born-again believers still sins. So the question is: What do you do with your sins? Do you try to hide them – like Adam and Eve tried to hide themselves in the garden of Eden after they sinned (Genesis 3:7-8)? Or do you confess and forsake your sins (Proverbs 28:13)? Do you hide or confess your sins?
Your answer to this question is huge. In other words, do you live barely on the other side of the line of sin and try to tip toe back and forth or are you truly being sanctified as God desires you to be sanctified? We are saved by His grace alone (John 1:17). But He gives us the choice of how far we want to take our relationship with Him after that. He never forces sanctification upon us.
Personally, I don’t want to slide into Heaven. I don’t want to make it there by the skin of my teeth (think death bed confession). I want to be totally emptied of myself and completely filled with God through the Holy Spirit. I want to be completely submitted to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ (Romans 12:1-2). I want as full of relationship with God, right here, right now, that I can possibly have. My prayer is to be holy because God is Holy. I want to be pure because He is pure. My prayer is that He will draw me ever closer to Himself in this life.
We cannot hide our sins from God (Ecclesiastes 12:14). We may hide them from others and we might even try to hide them from ourselves. But God even knows our thought life (Psalm 94:11). Oh how I pray that my evil thoughts would be taken captive by Jesus Christ. My desire is for God to cleanse my evil heart completely. I pray that God will make my heart white as snow.
How about you – what are your desires? Do you want God to go away and leave you alone and allow you to fall deeper into Satan’s snare? Or do you truly want to confess and forsake your sins? My hope and my prayer for you is that you will ask God to search your heart and that He will reveal any and all evil desires and intents of your heart (Psalm 139:23-24). I pray that God will cleanse you completely. I claim these same prayers for myself.
Please confess and forsake your sins and experience the mercy of God that can only be found through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Jesus died on the cross for guilty sinners who repent and put their trust in Him. But Jesus desires so much more for us. He wants us to become more like Him every single day (1 John 2:3-5). It’s only with the Holy Spirit’s help that we can be victorious over our sins (John 14:26). Jesus saves those who cry out to Him, but He wants us to enjoy the abundant life that only He can offer. Please don’t hide your sins anymore. Confess and forsake them and God will faithfully forgive your sins (1 John 1:8-9).
