Drunk, Crazy, Demonic or Why Choose?

I joked with my friends after we finished witnessing Friday night that “we got our money’s worth tonight.” We encountered several people that were drunk,crazy,  demonic or why choose (in other words all of the above). It was a crazy night of witnessing. 

Aaron, Erica, Brian and I started the night off singing (Diana and Erica joined us shortly thereafter). We were just singing hymns when a young man on bicycle starts yelling for us to shut up while he’s speeding toward us and again – we were just singing hymns.

He got right in front of us and literally stopped so fast that he flipped over the handle bars and did a face plant right in front of us. He jumped up and started screaming right in Aaron’s face. Then he yelled in my face and went back and forth a few times. Then a bystander came over and got between us and told the guy that he may not agree with us, but we have a right to be on the square anyway. I was thankful for this man standing up for us. Another guy walked by and he stood up for us too.

It was a good crowd and admittedly the yelling, crazy guy probably drew more people to us to see what was going on. After sang six or seven songs I brought a message about how the Supreme Court was wrong in striking down abortion law in Texas that made abortion clinics adhere to the same standards as other medical facilities. Then out of nowhere a drunk came running up screaming at me to stop preaching. He truly was crazy, drunk , demonic or all three. I told him that I was going to keep preaching. He walked away but came back. He accused me of calling him gay. I told him that I said he needed to repent, but that I didn’t call him gay.

Open-Air Preachers Assaulted

He kind of laughed, but then started screaming for me to shut up. I kept preaching, so he reached over and grabbed my amplifier. Before I knew it, he pulled me off the step stool and then with his other hand he swung at me. He pretty much just hit the side of my glasses and knocked my hat off. Then Brain came over and got in between us. Aaron came running over right after that and also stood between me and this drunk, crazy demonic guy. Then the guy punched Aaron in the face. The crazy drunk left and then came back again. Aaron stood between him and me. I kept preaching and the man hit Aaron again!

The crazy drunk kept going away and coming back. At one point I heard him screaming that he had already been to Hell (hence the demonic question). He really didn’t seem right. Maybe he was even high, who knows. Toward the end when he came back again, two bystanders jumped in to help us and the crazy drunk acted like he was going to fight them. Finally the police showed up and handcuffed him. They wrote him a summons, but the city and the county are fighting over jail space so one of the officers told me that they were going to drive him away from downtown and drop him off somewhere. I guess they took him far enough away because he didn’t come around and bother us any more after that.

Keep Preaching

Brian was trying to preach on the fact that people accuse us all the time of judging, but we are not judging. We are warning sinners to flee from the wrath to come. He stopped preaching during much of this back and forth with the crazy drunk. I kept encouraging Brian to keep preaching because that’s what they really want. They want to hinder the glorious Gospel from going forth. Then when Aaron preached after Brian and that’s when the police had the crazy drunk handcuffed. So the ironic part was he had to listen to much of the message because he couldn’t get away. Aaron was preaching on the need for repentance and how most preachers won’t preach the message of John the Baptist. They preach smooth, easy believism that leads so many poor souls to Hell.

Third Crazy Guy of The Night

While Aaron was preaching I was holding one of my new signs and standing near him when a large African-American came up and wanted to talk on the microphone. I intercepted him and tried to hand him a tract. He refused it and stated again that he wanted to talk on the mic. I told him no so he started cussing and also said that we had to stop preaching. I could smell the alcohol on his breath. He walked away, but came back again. Mouthing off some more, cussing and telling us to quit. He said that Jesus was the son of Mary and Joseph.  I said no, that He was the Son of Mary and God through the Holy Ghost. He called me crazy and I didn’t respond. I just let him walk away still mouthing off.

Erica and Aaron had a few conversations and I saw Erica handing out some tracts. We ended the night singing hymns and a woman in the crowd who we could see singing with us when we started the night, came up and sang hymns with us. (She listened to all three messages in between.) I don’t know if someone from our group (maybe Erica) asked her to join us, because I had walked around the square and handed out tracts and just got back in time to join everyone before they started. It was a crazy, crazy, night. But we hope and pray that Jesus was glorified and may He draw lost souls to Himself as only He can do.

Angry Planned Parenthood Supporters

Earlier on Wednesday Aaron and I witnessed at Planned Parenthood. A guy pulled into the parking lot to come up and verbally abuse us. He tried to talk to Aaron, but since he was preaching he told the guy to talk to me. So the guy walked up to me and asked I thought we were brave. I said no. Then he called us a filthy name and kept asking if I thought we were tough. I said no, we are preachers of righteousness. He kept calling us names, so I just kept repeating that he needs to repent and trust Jesus. He kept mouthing and laughing and I kept telling him that he has to repent and trust Jesus.

As soon as he got  back to his car a woman at the drive thru Chinese restaurant next to Planned Parenthood, pulled up to the corner of parking lot and started yelling at us for judging Planned Parenthood. I told her she shouldn’t judge us and I also said that we do have the right to judge a wicked place like Planned Parenthood. They kill 900 babies a day. Then this  crazy woman backed up to the drive thru window, got her food and pulled into Planned Parenthood’s parking lot to abuse us some more, but instead she took pictures of us (another woman pulled in and took pictures of us to0). But I noticed this woman had a small child in the backseat of her vehicle. I wondered if she’d have the guts to tell her child that she was supporting the murder of little kids in the womb.What do you think? I seriously doubt that she’s honest with her own child. Doesn’t that make her a hypocrite?
