Contradictions In The Bible And Other Excuses
While out street witnessing, we hear many unbelievers claim that there are contradictions in the Bible and other excuses. These claims usually come out when men and women are confronted with their own sinfulness and God’s Holiness. Instead of recognizing and accepting their failures, short comings, out-right sinfulness and ungodliness, they fall back on excuses such as the Bible was written by men, other religions talk about a flood and have a savior as well as there being contradictions in the Bible and other excuses.
But are there really contradictions in the Bible? We recently had a young man claim this while we witnessed to him. When asked to give us an example, the young man was unable to do so. More times than not, this is the case. Unbelievers who claim that there are contradictions in the Bible can’t even provide one example. Even when someone makes an attempt to show one, they are typically feeble attempts or a real stretch.
Are There Contradictions In The Bible?
So again, are there contradictions in the Bible? Absolutely not. Are there passages that are hard to understand? Absolutely. But there are no contradictions. None. Not a single one. How can we as Christians be so sure of this? We can be sure of this because of who Jesus is. Jesus is the Son of God, He was God in the flesh and Jesus is the Word. Yes, the Bible was written by holy men who were inspired by the Holy Spirit. There is not a single word in the Bible that God did not want there.
How can we know the Bible is true? Again, Jesus is the Word. He also is truth. Jesus Himself said I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me (John 14:6). Jesus is truth. Truth cannot contradict itself. If the Bible contradicts itself, then Jesus contradicts Himself, He is not truth. In fact, that would make Jesus a liar.
Let God Be True And Every Man A Liar
Jesus is not a liar. Let God be true and every man a liar (Romans 3:4). Jesus does not contradict Himself. The Bible is true and unbelievers who fall back on this argument and any other excuse are merely suppressing the truth in unrighteousness. They know the truth, but they don’t want to admit it! So it’s not the Bible that contradicts itself, it’s unrepentant, God-deniers that contradict themselves.
I can’t tell you how many times over the years I’ve had unbelievers state emphatically that there is no God and then they turn right around in the next breath and blame God for all the evils in the world. Now that’s a contradiction! You can’t have it both ways. You can’t say there is no God and then curse Him or be angry at Him in the next breath. But I’ve seen this countless times and I always call people out on their hypocrisy. You can’t blame God for wrong doing if there is no God.
Are You A Fool?
But again, they know that God is real. They just don’t want to admit it. They don’t want to be accountable for their sins to an all power, all knowing and ever-present God. Psalm 14:1-3 states: The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. The Lord looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
God calls Atheists fools! You can look around at creation and know that there is a Creator. They say there is no God. Why? Because they are corrupt, they have done abominable works and there is none that doeth good. Folks, we have all sinned against Almighty God. Each and every one of us have done so. The question is: are you still an unrepentant, Hell-bound sinner or have you acknowledged your sins and surrendered your life to Jesus? It’s one or the other. Which is it tonight?
Stop With The Excuses
If you are an unrepentant sinner, I plead with you to stop with the excuses. There will be no excuses on Judgment Day. The Bible says every mouth will be stopped. Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin (Romans 3:19-20).
Instead of suppressing the truth in unrighteousness, instead of looking for excuses for your unbelief, recognize that you are a sinner. For all have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory (Romans 3:23). That’s right, every single one of us have sinned against Almighty God. Every curse word, every time you’ve lusted, lied, stolen something, disobeyed your parents, you were sinning. Not just sinning, but sinning against the great Creator God.
God Punishes Sinners
God is so Holy and just, that He must punish unrepentant sinners and He does. If a judge let a drunk driver go away scot-free after the driver killed someone in an accident, that judge would not be a good or fair judge. No, a good judge, punishes criminals. God is a good Judge and He does punish unrepentant sinners.
That punishment is eternal punishment in the lake of fire. It is never ending punishment. Jesus describes the lake of fire a place where the worm dies not and the fire is never quenched. It is everlasting, eternal torments. All unrepentant sinners will spend eternity in the lake of fire, if they die in their sins. If they die outside of Christ Jesus.
The Lord Jesus is the only Savior of mankind. There is no other savior. Jesus is the way, the only way and the Lord calls you to repentance. That was the very first message that Jesus preached and it still preaches today. Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel (Mark 1:14-15).
Repent And Believe The Gospel
God commands all people everywhere to repent (Acts 17:30-31). Again, Jesus says to repent and believe the Gospel. God is Holy, perfect, just and righteous. He is the great Creator and He has the right to tell us what to do. But unrepentant sinners don’t want to hear this. They don’t want to be accountable to a higher power for their sins. But we are accountable to Almighty God. Wishing it isn’t so, doesn’t change the reality of it.
Jesus is the only Savior. We plead with you tonight to turn to Christ and live. Recognize that you have offended Almighty God by your sins and there is nothing you can do to make yourself right or in good standing before God. Confess your sins to God. Cry out for Jesus to save you. The Lord Jesus is the only Savior because He came to this earth 2,000 years ago and He did what you and I could not do – He lived a perfect, sinless life.
Even though Jesus never sinned, He willingly went to the cross in the place of guilty sinners. He suffered, bled and died on that cruel cross while God poured His anger over our sins out upon His own precious Son. Jesus was buried and rose again three days later. Jesus defeated sin, death, Hell and Satan. Salvation is for all who repent of their sins and who surrender their lives to King Jesus.
Bow Now Or Later
Oh, won’t you do this today? Stop barreling down the broad road to destruction. There is no sin on this earth that’s worth suffering eternal damnation over it. Repent and believe the Gospel. Surrender your life fully and completely to Jesus. He is the King of kings and the Lord of Lords. Every knee will bow to Him and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. The question is: will you foolishly wait until Judgment Day to do so or will you do so in this life and receive eternal life?
Quit claiming there are contradictions in the Bible and making other excuses. Admit that you are a sinner and a rebel. Own up to your sinful nature and your sinful heart. Cry out for Jesus to save you. Repent and trust Jesus. Trust in His finished work on the cross to save you. Then read the Bible every day and obey it. Jesus said if you love Me, keep My commandments. Turn to Christ Jesus and live. No excuses.
