Cold But Not Too Cold To Mock God
Friday night was very cold. It was 32 degrees and it felt like 21 degrees with the biting wind. It was cold but not too cold to mock God. I’m always amazed at how God mockers can stop and mock God, no matter how cold the weather is and Friday night was no exception. Sadly, even on this cold night, people were lined up most of the night to get into the bar Outland Ballroom across the street from us. But they heard the Gospel as they waited to get in.
Stop Judging People
There were too many mockers to mention them all specifically, but Aaron was reading Scripture, literally reading straight out of the Bible – 1 Timothy 1 starting at verse 8 a young woman walked by and yelled at him to stop judging people. He looked at me and we both laughed because he was only reading the Bible. She kept walking away from us and kept mocking God. She gave they typical hail Satan that we hear most Friday nights and of course she threw in a few cuss words to go with it.
Later on, a homeless man and woman came up to us and the man interrupted Aaron and in a drunken slur yelled what about helping the homeless. We have witnessed to this man many times, but sadly, he loves his sin – alcohol. He said that he wanted help, but he really wanted money to buy more booze. Aaron looked right at him and told him that he loves his sin and that he needs to repent and the man did what he always does – he said f-you. Then he walked over to Erica and I was too far away to hear exactly what was said, but I could hear him cussing her out too. Then the same alcoholic got into a yelling match with what appeared to be a young homeless man that was smoking marijuana.
Protect Trans Kids
I couldn’t tell if it was the same homeless woman that was with the alcoholic, but this woman walked across the street and yelled at people and yelled back at Aaron as he preached. Many other walked by or drove by and yelled too. I was amazed at the number of people that drove by and rolled their windows down as they went by. Toward the end of Aaron’s message, two young women walked by us and one of them was holding a sign that read Protect Trans Kids. I guess they were trying to be shocking, but they really weren’t. They deny the truth that we are all made by God and we are all male or female and there shouldn’t be any confusion concerning this. Almighty God is definitely not confused.
Erica, Elise, Serenity, Desi, Aaron and I sang a couple of hymns to start and finish the night. We handed out a few tracts and some hand warmers. One homeless couple took tracts and hand warmers from us and they turned around and gave us a bottle of water. Even though it was a cold night, it was a good night to proclaim the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ our Lord in the open air.
Lots of Apathy
On Wednesday at MSU I felt compelled to open-air preach outside Strong Hall. This is the place where I started doing open-air around four years ago, but we’ve been going to a busier spot the last couple of years. I really like Strong Hall. It is a U-shaped building with great acoustics. The university is finishing up a new building right in front of Strong Hall to the North Side and I believe it helps with the sound too. I brought a message about innocent blood and how guilty we are in America for the 60 million babies that have been viciously slaughtered in the womb since 1973.
Now you’d think a message like this would raise the ire of many students, wouldn’t you? But not so. Only one young man mouthed off as he walked by me and entered the building. Hundreds of students passed me coming and going and not a single other student said a word. There was lots of apathy and it was very heartbreaking. At least when people mouth off, you know they are hearing God’s truth. They don’t like it, but they hear it. When they walk by in silence you really don’t know if they are listening or not. May the Lord wake up this spiritually sleeping, young generation.
