Several of us with Born of Him Ministries go out witnessing. Sometimes we are accused of being offensive, especially when we do open-air preaching. Sometimes people yell out “Christians don’t do that.” Sadly, the majority of the people who yell at us saying that we are offending them claim to be Christians themselves.
Why is this sad? Because if they are truly saved, they shouldn’t be against the Gospel being proclaimed in public. The worst part is that the majority of them probably aren’t really saved. The reason they get upset is because the Holy Spirit is convicting them. They claim to be a follower of Jesus, but they love their sin. In their own mind they have created a false god that turns a blind eye to their sins.
The Bible says that sin is pleasurable for a season (Hebrews 11:25). If you find the proclamation of Jesus Christ offensive, please ask yourself why? I’m not offended by Muhammad, Buddha, Joseph Smith, etc. My heart breaks for the millions of people in the world that are being deceived by these false religions, but they don’t make me want to yell and curse at their followers.
So why does the name Jesus Christ offend so many people? Romans 2:15 says,”Which show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another.” This verse clearly tells us that we know right from wrong because God has written the 10 Commandments on our hearts. It also clearly states that your conscience bears witness and your thoughts accuse you (when you know you are doing something wrong).
Folks, if the mere mention of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ drives you crazy, then you really need to ask yourself “why.” It could very well be that God is convicting you that you are a sinner and that you cannot undo your sins. You are guilty before our Holy God. Your conscience is bothering. Jesus said that we need to repent and believe the gospel (Mark 1:15).
We have all sinned, thereby rebelling against God. There’s nothing we can do on our own to change that. We must fall at the feet of Jesus. Turn away from our sins and ask Jesus to lead our lives from this day forward. Do this today and be cleansed by the shed blood of Jesus Christ. In other words, God will no longer see you in your sins. He will see you through the righteousness of Jesus. To receive the free gift of salvation we need to repent and put our faith in Jesus.
Won’t you do this today? Then read your Bible everyday and please don’t hinder the Gospel being proclaimed. True Christians, true believers do share their faith with others. In 1 Corinthians 9:22, the apostle Paul said, “I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.” Proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ by all means.
