Today I want to talk you about fear. Let’s look at some famous fear quotes.

You can conquer almost any fear if you will only make up your mind to do so. For remember, fear doesn’t exist anywhere except in the mind. Dale Carnegie

He who fears being conquered is sure of defeat. Napoleon

Fear defeats more people than any other one thing in the world. Ralph Waldo Emerson [Read more…]

Are We Punished For Our Sins?

Punished for our sins sign

I drove by a “church” the other day and they had a sign out front that said “We are not punished for our sins, but by them.” This is a quote from Elbert Hubbard. This may sound good to people, but is it true? Let’s look at the last part of the statement first. Are we punished by our sins? Another way to look at this is: Are there repercussions for our actions? Of course there are. This is common sense. [Read more…]

Wonderful Counselor Prince of Peace

Today, I want to read some wonderful descriptions of Jesus found in Isaiah Chapter 9. But it seems prudent to start with Isaiah 8:13, which states: Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. Now many people would rather hear about the love of God and the wonderful names that Jesus is known by. But this is Bible and this is real. This too is the word of God and it says let God be your fear and dread. [Read more…]

Does Coexist Make Sense?

Coexist Sign

We were out street witnessing tonight and a young man came over and stood in front of us holding up a coexist sign while Aaron was preaching. I went over asked him how can the world religions coexist while Muslims (the C in coexist) are beheading the Christians (the T in coexist)? He said that they aren’t just killing Christians. Like somehow that proves his point? So if Muslims are even killing other Muslims in addition to killing Christians, doesn’t that even prove the point even more emphatically that there is no coexist if Muslims can’t even coexist with other Muslims? Do You Say Search Me O God?

Magnifying Glass

I love Psalm 139. I love David’s honesty with God. I love how he acknowledges that God is ever present, all knowing and all powerful. God even knows our thought life (Psalm 139:3). We truly are fearfully and wonderfully made by God, in His image. Our God truly is an awesome God. His thoughts, desires and ways are so much higher than ours. [Read more…]

The Blame Game

The Blame Game

My sister and I blamed each other when we were growing up. When we did something wrong, we would blame it on the other one. I used to blame my wife when things went wrong when we worked together. Even if it was an employee’s fault – an employee that I hired, I would still blame my wife for their mistakes. [Read more…]

Who Do You Follow?

If you have little kids or younger brothers or sisters, you probably have seen a really young child stand in their parent’s shoes or boots and try to walk around in them. It’s really cute to watch this. They can usually get in them and even stand up, but obviously they can’t walk around in them because the shoes or boots are too big. But the little kid is trying. They are trying to emulate their mom or dad. They want to be like them. They want to do what their mom or dad does. They are trying to follow in their footsteps. [Read more…]

Christians Caused the Holocaust…Really?

Do we have any devout Atheists out here tonight? Are you a staunch Atheist? I’m asking these questions because a couple of weeks ago I posted something on Facebook and some atheists went absolutely berserk over it. Several of them kept asking question after question – rapid fire, but they really weren’t looking for answers. They weren’t looking for truth. They just wanted to state their God-hating position and make fun of Christians. I finally had to follow biblical instruction and ignore them, according to Titus 3:10-11: A man that is an heretic after the first and second admonition reject; Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sins, being condemned of himself.

Burton Do I Ever Pray website pic

I say my prayers, but I do I ever really pray? I pray for my lost loved ones, friends, co-workers, customers, false converts at my old church, false converts at my current church, my friend’s lost loved ones, for those who need healing, those who need financial help, those who are suffering from the death of a loved one and brothers and sisters in Christ around the world who are suffering persecution.
