Young people may not realize this, but tv’s used to be black and white. Police cars back in the 1970’s were called black and whites because they were painted like the police car pictured above. Black and white may be considered an old fashioned term. People nowadays want to talk about tolerance. There always seems to be shades of gray. We don’t like to think in terms of black and white or right and wrong.
But God doesn’t deal with people in shades of gray. He always deals in black and white. He gave us the 10 Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17). He gave us the commandments so we can see our sinful nature (Galatians 3:24). He gave them to us so we will see how sinful we are compared to His holiness, His righteousness. They are not the ten suggestions, they are the 10 Commandments. It’s black and white – you can’t argue with them.
The Bible is full of other examples that prove that God deals with us in black and white and not shades of gray:
- Right or Wrong
- Good or Evil
- Admitted Sinner or Liar
- Choose Life or Choose Death
- Blessings or Cursings
- Heaven or Hell
- Friend or Enemy
- Believer or Unbeliever
- Saved or Unsaved
- Lost or Found
- Born Again or Dead in Sin
- Repentant or Unrepentant
- Believe in Jesus or You consider Him a Liar
- For Jesus or Against Him
- You are Alive in Christ or You are Dead in Your Trespasses and Sins
- Accept the Free Gift of Salvation or You Reject the Gift
- You Receive God’s Grace through Faith or You remain Under God’s Judgment
- Jesus is Your Lord and Savior or He will be Your Judge
- You are under God’s Mercy or You are under His Wrath
- Your Sins have been Forgiven or You are still Guilty and Unforgiven
- Obedient or Disobedient
- Follower of Jesus or You are Following Someone/Something Else
There is no middle ground. Jesus died on the cross for guilty sinners who turn away from their sins and put their trust in Him. Either you believe this and receive salvation that is found through Jesus or you reject it and remain guilty of your sins. If you reject this amazing gift of grace, then you will remain under God’s wrath and will face His judgment on Judgment Day (Revelation 20:11-15). Either Jesus will represent you on Judgment Day or you will represent yourself. The choice is black and white. Which will it be for you? Do you choose Jesus or do you reject Him?
