Ministry Update December 20, 2015
Jehovah’s Witness
Friday night December 18, 2015 Kelly was preaching on the box when a young man walked up and wanted to know why we were doing this. I handed him a tract and explained that we are out calling sinners to repent and trust Jesus. I could tell he’d been drinking even though he had a breath mint trying to cover it up. I asked him if he had repented and put his faith in Christ. Then he said that’s he’s bent over backwards begging God to take alcohol away from him.
I asked him if he was familiar with 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 and he said he didn’t know it. So I grabbed my Bible started turning to it when he said it’s really cold (and it was) and acted like he was going to walk off. I thought to myself you haven’t really bent over backwards too much if you can’t even wait one minute to read a Bible verse. Then as I just got to the right page, he asked if I believe that Jesus is the Son of God and I said yes. Then he threw the tract onto my open Bible and said we don’t believe the same way and walked off. It was only then that I realized from some of his earlier comments that he was a Jehovah’s Witness so I told him that no wonder God doesn’t answer his prayer because he’s praying to the wrong god. As he walked away I quoted him John 1:1. He stopped, turned around and said have a good night. I responded likewise. If you don’t understand who Jesus is, then you cannot be saved. Jesus is the only way, truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6).
Caroling
We started and ended the night singing hymns. A woman crossed the street when we started singing hymns and stood there most of the time with her eyes closed, just listening. Someone walked by and handed her a bag of food. After we finished she started walking off. I asked her to wait and tried to give her some hand warmers. She said that she didn’t need them because she just lives a couple of blocks away, so I handed her a tract instead. We ended the night singing carols and many people waived, gave us thumbs up and encouraged us. Kelly leaned toward me and asked jokingly why don’t we ever get these responses when we preach?
Cross-dresser
While Kelly and I were preaching, we both had mockers scoffers. One lady was walking with several others and she flipped us off the whole time she walked down the sidewalk. But toward the end of my message, a young man wearing a long skirt and makeup came across the street and he recorded the end of my message. I typically end them this way: if you have any questions come on over; we’d love to talk you. We also have free Bibles or let us know if you have any prayer requests. While I was putting my Bible up the cross-dresser came over and asked for a Bible. I handed him and he thanked me for preaching. May God save him, the Jehovah’s Witness, the carol loving woman and the mockers and scoffers.
Faithful Church
Even though it was 28 degrees and Aaron was preaching at a funeral out of town, the faithful from his church came out anyway. Erica, Diana, Elise and Serenity came downtown to sing carols and hand out tracts.
God Mockers
Earlier in the week Aaron and I witnessed in front of Planned Parenthood. After we sang a little bit, I brought a message called The Smell of Hell. Two young women came out of PP and got into their car; they stopped and started yelling at us. They were laughing and mocking us because they don’t believe the morning after pill is an abortion. But it is. It is not a contraceptive. It does not prevent a woman from becoming pregnant. Instead, it terminates the pregnancy after the fact. This should be clear to everyone because it is commonly called the morning AFTER pill. It’s after the fact. It’s taken after conception. It is an abortifacient.
Picketers
Then someone called the police on us because we were “picketing” Planned Parenthood. I rode to PP with Aaron so I kept preaching when the police woman drove up. Aaron went over to his truck but she wouldn’t listen to him. She wrote him a ticket (which ironically had nothing to do with picketing). It appears that she is a staunch supporter of Planned Parenthood. Another police officer drove up and he wouldn’t listen either. The saddest part is that we think it may have been the manager of the business near PP, a business that we support, a business that we patronize that called the police.
Aaron has an attorney and he’s fighting the ticket. Hopefully his attorney will find out who called the police. If it turns out that it really was the business that we think it was, we may need to picket this business too. They should have nothing to do with the culture at Planned Parenthood. I hope it was someone else, but we’ll see. Many, many people are deceived by PP and many of them believe the lie that somehow Planned Parenthood provides women’s health care. There is no health in killing little babies and they provided no care. Abortion is evil. It is the most wicked crime being committed in America. Abortion must end. Stop the killing.
(These updates are posted to encourage Christians to share their faith. What is following Jesus costing you?)
Bob Chambers
Amen Dennis. If you weren’t so far, I would love to join you. May the Lord give you some souls who will repent and beieve in Jesus for their salvation.
