Friday night Brian, Aaron and I preached downtown and it was a night full of people mocking Jesus. I brought a message from Luke 2 about the birth of Jesus, Brian preached on victory in Jesus and Aaron preached on Matthew 1, where the angel foretells the birth of Jesus and that He will save His people from their sins. More times than not when we are street witnessing, someone will yell out “God loves everybody.” They say this to justify their sin. In other words, it doesn’t matter if you continue living a sinful lifestyle, God loves you anyway. But is this biblical? Does God punish sinners? [Read more…]
Friday night was a cold windy night, but that didn’t keep the mockers from coming out in full force. Aaron was preaching about how long suffering God is toward sinners and he pretty much had one mocker right after the other, the whole time he preached. But a motorcycle rider sat there revving his engine trying to drown out the preaching and just like we’ve seen before, he pealed out and lost control and wrecked the motorcycle. Pieces of his bike broke off. I was witnessing to a vendor across the street, but Aaron went over and preached to the rider, reminding him that God will not be mocked. Friday night Diana, Elise and I witnessed downtown. I was bringing a message and like countless times in the past, God sent a mocker by at the exact moment to emphasize a point. I was preaching about why we call people to repent and I was quoting where Jesus was telling the religious leaders that they didn’t listen to John the Baptist, but the tax collectors and harlots did. I was making the point that these sinners repented and didn’t continue in their wicked ways; that Jesus never condoned sins and two lesbians walk up at that exact moment saying “we’re lesbians.” So I reminded them again that Jesus never condoned sin; not homosexuality and not lesbianism. Sometimes my friends and I get accused of trying to shove our religion down people’s throats. We get accused of this because we do stand on the street corner and call people to repent and to trust Jesus as their Lord and Savior. We believe the Bible. We believe Jesus. We heard four people yell hail Satan, had a flasher, a stool kicker and a reprobate mind on Friday night. Kelly started us off and he preached from Romans 1 when four different people yelled “Hail Satan” while he was preaching. He also received the typical calls “judge not lest ye be judged.” The funniest part about that was he actually addressed this right at the beginning of his message. One of the first things he said was if you feel judged tonight, we are not the ones judging you. If you feel like you are being judged it will be because of God’s word. “False, false, false.” “You are not God.” “Jesus didn’t write the Bible.” Yes, a couple Friday night actually chanted these things while I was preaching. Just to clear the record, I never said Jesus wrote the Bible, I said Jesus confirmed the Bible. Jesus constantly quoted the Old Testament. I obviously never claimed to be God. But their greatest sin was chanting false, false, false while I was reading the Bible. They even chanted this when I quoted John 3:16! [Read more…]
Who is really on trial? I want you to picture a courtroom. There’s a judge, jury, bailiff, prosecutor, defendant and the gallery. Everyone is in their spot, except for the defendant. Instead of sitting at the defense table with his attorney, the defendant is sitting where the judge should be! Don’t you imagine that it wouldn’t take very long for the bailiff to snatch that defendant out there and slap handcuffs on him? Can you see how absurd this would be? [Read more…]
