Atheists Demand The Impossible
Ministry Update June 9, 2019
Friday night witnessing was a little strange this week. It was Artwalk and there was a band on the square and the street around the square was blocked off to traffic. Also, just North of our normal witnessing spot, Jefferson was blocked off to traffic and there was another band playing there. They were so loud, that Conner and I crossed the street and I brought a short message with the amp at about half volume. One guy stopped and shook my hand and thanked me for sharing the Gospel. But after I finished, Conner said that he wanted to go to the square and talk to the Atheists set up there. We did talk to them, but turns out Atheists demand the impossible.
They had a little sign that said Ask An Atheist A Question. I asked them about how Atheism offers no hope. They wanted to know why we need hope. Millions of people have no hope. Conner tried to show them that they have to steal from our Christian worldview, but they argued with him. Later on, they admitted that even if Jesus physically showed up in front of them, they’d be skeptical. I told Wes that I’m sure he still wouldn’t believe and used the example of Jesus raising Lazarus from the grave. The Jewish leaders didn’t fall at Jesus’ feet and say, “You are the Christ, the promised Messiah.” No, they said that in addition to killing Jesus, they also needed to kill Lazarus to keep Christianity from spreading.
After about 30 to 40 minutes of talking to the Atheists, I left and Conner was still talking to Ray. But before I left, Wes said that what he needed was 100% irrefutable proof that God exists. Yes, Atheists demand the impossible. I told him that it isn’t possible to prove without a doubt that God exits. (Don’t get me wrong, I 100%, without a doubt am sure that God is real, that Jesus is my Lord and Savior and that I have repented and trusted Christ for my salvation and that I have eternal life. What I’m saying is that I can’t prove it someone else. My assurance comes from the Holy Spirit and confirmed by Scripture). Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17). Hebrews 11:1 says: Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
My Faith Is In Jesus Christ
My faith is in Jesus Christ my Lord. But I don’t see Him and I can’t prove to you that He is real and I can’t prove that He is the only Savior of mankind without using the Bible. Atheists don’t want to hear what the Bible says because they don’t believe it is true. But I am saved and I’m filled with the Holy Spirit. When I read the Holy Bible, I know it’s true, beyond a shadow of a doubt. But I can’t prove it to you. Atheists demand the impossible. Sadly, God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble. I talked to Wes for quite a while. We shared our religious backgrounds and he was hurt by the church when he was in 5th grade. I told him that I was very sorry about that.
He kept demanding proof that the Bible is true and God is real. I can’t do that. I explained that over 300 prophecies of Jesus have proved true, but he and his friends claimed that none of those specifically mentioned Jesus by name. They also said that you can say about anything and after thousands of years, some of them will come true. Even when you point them to truth, they don’t want to hear it. They suppress the truth in unrighteousness, just like the Bible says they do.
Satan has these guys blinded and they are proud and arrogant. I told Wes that he was putting himself above God. He strenuously argued otherwise, but it is true. I pleaded with him to read the Bible humbly, asking God to reveal Himself to Wes, but he just said that he’s read the Bible many times. Arguing with Atheists is not my favorite thing to do. I’d much rather share the Gospel. I especially don’t like getting in a discussion with hardened Atheists. I love Conner my brother in Christ, so I agreed to go with him and talk to the Atheists, but I’d just about rather be poked in the eye than talk to people that are so closed minded and think they know everything. We handed out many New Testaments and several Gospel tracts while we were downtown. May God save lost souls, even some of the hardened Atheists that demand the impossible.
Nice Surprise
My wife and I were going to witness at Planned Parenthood on Monday night after work. But it turns out they closed early that day. So we went Wednesday during the lunch hour instead. I’m glad we did, because Kelly was driving by, saw us witnessing and he stopped and joined us. That was a nice surprise. Before that, a guy was spray painting the sidewalk near us, evidently marking utilities or something. I tried to hand him a New Testament, but he refused. Afterward, my wife said, “I was watching him closely because you could just tell that he wanted to paint your shoes and pant leg.” I agreed with her. He sprayed right next to my shoes, but didn’t get any on me. There were around six cars again this week and nobody talked to us as they left.
Kelly brought a message after I did and he stirred up a woman at the shopping center next to us. Yes, she was another mother patronizing Other Mothers and I kid you not, she was pushing a stroller into the building, yelling at Kelly for standing for life and against Planned Parenthood. I’m always amazed that these women don’t see the irony of their buying or selling baby items at a used children’s clothing store while at the same time yelling at us for standing up for the unborn!
