Are You In Your Right Mind?
Has anyone ever said to you, “Are you out of your mind?” I have. I’ve shared business ideas with people and they think I’ve gone crazy so they’ve asked me that question. Maybe you’ve had that happen to you too. But has anyone ever asked you if you are in your right mind? No? We’ll now you have because I’m asking you now: Are you in your right mind?
I am left handed. You may have heard that right handed people use the left side of their brain. So the reverse is also true, left handed people use the right side of their brain. Those of us who are left handed like to say that we are the ones in our right mind. But this isn’t the right mind that I’m talking about tonight. In fact, it may seem downright strange to you that I’m asking the question, but I am asking it anyway. Are you in your right mind?
Demon Possessed Man
Let me read you some Bible verses and hopefully it will clear up what I’m saying. And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee. And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had demons long time, and wore no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with you, Jesus, you Son of God most high? I beseech you, torment me not.
(For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he broke the bands, and was driven of the demons into the wilderness.) And Jesus asked him, saying, What is your name? And he said, Legion: because many demons were entered into him.
Demons Pleading With Jesus
And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep. And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would allow them to enter into them. And he allowed them. Then went the demons out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked.
When they that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told it in the city and in the country. Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the demons were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid. They also which saw it told them by what means he that was possessed of the was healed.
Then the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about besought him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear: and he went up into the ship, and returned back again. Now the man out of whom the demons were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying, Return to your own house, and show how great things God has done to you. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done to him (Luke 8:26-39).
Clothed And In His Right Mind
Now I’m not asking if you are demon possessed or if you have ever been demon possessed. I’m asking if you are in your right mind because when Jesus healed the man, he was sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind. What I’m asking you tonight is just like the man who had been demon possessed was healed and became a follower of Jesus, have you surrendered your life to Jesus Christ?
When you do so, when you repent and surrender your life to Jesus, you are no longer the same. You’re no longer the same old dirty rotten sinner that you once were. (I know I’m not. This does not mean that I’m perfect. It means Jesus has changed me just like He changed the demon possessed man). I’ve met Jesus Christ and He totally changed my life. I used to be out of my mind with doubts, fears, and unbelief.
In the past, I was a miserable person. I used to think one more drink would solve all my problems or at least it would numb me to the point I wouldn’t care anymore. Or I thought buying one more rock album would make me happy. But buying material things was never fulfilling. Enough alcohol is never enough. Enough lusting or desiring worldly possessions is never enough.
Devil Gives Empty Promises
Empty promises from the devil are maddening. They never satisfy or fill you up. Satan always leaves you wanting one more whatever it is. If you love money, whatever you have earned or accumulated is never enough. You always want more. I used to lust after the pleasures of the flesh and I was never satisfied.
I was completely out of my mind, when I foolishly thought I was in charge and that I was doing whatever I wanted when I wanted. But I wasn’t happy. There was no joy in my life and I really wasn’t in my right mind at the time. No, it was the exact opposite. I was totally out of my mind and out of control.
Does this describe you tonight? Are you out of your mind? Are you living for the pleasures of the flesh? Folks are you living for the devil? Do not be deceived tonight. The devil only came to deceive you. Satan is a liar and the father of lies. Jesus called him a thief. The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly (John 10:10). Don’t be fooled by the devil. He wants to keep you out of your mind. Satan is not your friend. He is your enemy.
Don’t Continue Serving Satan
Don’t continue being a servant of Satan. Don’t continue being blinded by sin and by the world. Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passes away, and the lust thereof: but he that does the will of God abides for ever.
Don’t continue chasing worldly pleasures that never bring lasting peace and joy. The lust of the eyes and the pride of life never say enough is enough. You will always want more and you’ll never be satisfied. You will continue being out of your mind.
But you don’t have to continue barreling down the broad road to destruction. Enter in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads to life, and few there be that find it (Matthew 7:13-14).
Turn From Sin And To Jesus
Turn from your sins and turn to Jesus. Oh, but folks since I’ve met Jesus, since I repented and surrendered my life to Him, I have been in my right mind and you can be too. You can receive peace that surpasses all understanding. Yes, you can be filled with joy unspeakable and full of glory. You can go from being out of your mind to being in your right mind as quickly as the demonic man was healed by Jesus over 2,000 years ago.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. He is the only Savior of mankind. Only Jesus saves and we need to be saved because we’ve all rebelled against God. We’ve all sinned against God. None of us are righteous or right with God on our own. There is nothing that you or I can do to make ourselves right with God.
For there is not a just man upon earth, that does good, and does not sin (Ecclesiastes 7:20). They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that does good, no, not one (Psalm 14:3). But the scripture has concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith (Galatians 3:22-24).
You Can’t Make Yourself Right With God
You can only be justified or made right with God through Jesus Christ alone. Jesus paid the sin debt that you and I owe. The Lord suffered, bled and died on the old rugged cross in our place, if we repent and trust Him. Then Jesus rose from the grave three days later. Folks, God offers eternal life to everyone who repents – turns from their sins and puts their faith, their trust in Jesus Christ alone.
Oh, do this tonight and be saved. You will pass from spiritual death to life. You will go from being out of your mind to being in your right mind. No longer will God see you as a wretched sinner. He will see you through the righteousness of Jesus. It is the great exchange. Jesus takes your sins upon Himself as He hung on the cross and He gives you His righteousness. Now you can stand before God and be seen as innocent instead of guilty. Not for any goodness that you have, but because of the goodness of Christ alone.
Repent from your sins and surrender your life to Jesus. Do this tonight and be saved. We want you to be saved. We want you to receive eternal life. And this is life eternal, that they might know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent (John 17:3).
Eternal Life
And this is the record, that God has given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that has the Son has life; and he that has not the Son of God has not life. These things have I written to you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may believe on the name of the Son of God (1 John 5:11-13).
Come to Jesus and be saved. Today is the day of salvation. Not tomorrow, the next day, next week or next year. Today is the day of salvation. Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2). This could be your last day on this earth. Don’t die in your sins as an unrepentant sinner. Oh, don’t die in your sins in rebellion against almighty God.
Jesus said come all who are thirsty. Come all who are hungry. Come all who are weary and heavy laden. Are you tired of being out of your mind? Are you tired of the lies, the hangovers, the empty promises that the devil and the world have to offer? Aren’t you tired of the same old same ole? Jesus says come to Him.
Jesus Will Give You Rest
He will give you rest. Come unto me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest to your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light (Matthew 11:28-30). Come to Jesus Christ and be saved. Repent and trust Jesus. Only trust Him, only trust Him, only trust Him now. He will save you, He will save you. He will save you now.
Call upon the precious name of Jesus and be saved. His name is the name above all names. At the name of Jesus on Judgment Day, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Oh, do this tonight. Confess and forsake your sins. Cry out to Jesus to save you.
Repent from your sins and surrender your life to the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. Come to Jesus and receive peace that surpasses all understanding. Come to Jesus and see what it’s truly like to be in your right mind. Submit to King Jesus. Read the Bible daily and obey Jesus Christ our Lord.
