Are You Cursed?
I assume most of us out here tonight don’t believe in curses. We don’t believe in curses from witches or voodoo curses. Most of us don’t believe in such things in the 21st century. So, this may seem like a strange question tonight, but are you cursed? No, I’m not joking. I’m sincerely asking if you are cursed?
And Moses and the priests the Levites spoke unto all Israel, saying, Take heed, and hearken, O Israel; this day thou art become the people of the Lord thy God. Thou shalt therefore obey the voice of the Lord thy God, and do his commandments and his statutes, which I command thee this day (Deuteronomy 27:9-10).
And the Levites shall speak, and say unto all the men of Israel with a loud voice, Cursed be the man that makes any graven or molten image, an abomination unto the Lord, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and puts it in a secret place. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen. Cursed be he that sets light by his father or his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen.
Cursed be he that removes his neighbor’s landmark. And all the people shall say, Amen. Cursed be he that makes the blind to wander out of the way. And all the people shall say, Amen. Cursed be he that perverts the judgment of the stranger, fatherless, and widow. And all the people shall say, Amen. Cursed be he that lies with his father’s wife; because he uncovers his father’s skirt. And all the people shall say, Amen.
Cursed Be…
Cursed be he that lieth with any manner of beast. And all the people shall say, Amen. Cursed be he that lieth with his sister, the daughter of his father, or the daughter of his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen. Cursed be he that lieth with his mother in law. And all the people shall say, Amen.
Cursed be he that smites his neighbor secretly. And all the people shall say, Amen. Cursed be he that takes reward to slay an innocent person. And all the people shall say, Amen. Cursed be he that confirms not all the words of this law to do them. And all the people shall say, Amen (Deuteronomy 27:14-26).
Through Moses, God pronounced a lot of curses on the Israelites if they did not obey Him. Did you catch how many times the people were to say Amen? To say Amen is to say this is truth. It is to say I agree wholeheartedly. But the Israelites that thought they could keep all the commandments of the Lord were not able to do so. They actually were cursed.
Can You Keep God’s Commandments?
So, I sincerely ask you tonight, are you just like the Israelites? Do you think that you can keep God’s commandments? Do you think that you can be good enough for God to let you into Heaven after you die? Are you trying to make it to Heaven by your works? Are you trying to earn your salvation? If this describes you, then I’m sorry to say that you will not make it. You will fail miserably and yes, you are cursed.
I can stand here and say without a shadow of a doubt that if you are counting on anything except for Jesus Christ alone for your salvation, you will not make it. You are most definitely cursed. You see, none of us are good enough to make it to Heaven on our own. Not a single one of us are righteous or right with God on our own. None of us have perfectly kept God’s Law – the Ten Commandments. Not a one of us. We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).
We have all lied, stolen, lusted, coveted, blasphemed God, worshiped false gods, disobeyed our parents and murdered in our hearts. Every human being is guilty, guilty, guilty. We have all transgressed God’s Law. Each and every one of us have rebelled against God. The next logical question is: where does your sin lead you?
Sin Leads To Death
Sin leads to death. Physical death and eternal damnation. The soul that sins, it shall die. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23). If Jesus Christ is not your Lord and Savior tonight, you are cursed. You are only working for death and you have the flames of Hell waiting for you after you take your last breath on this earth.
You can’t break the curse on your own and on your own, you can’t undo the eternal damnation you are under. For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continues not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them (Galatians 3:10).
If you break one commandment, you’ve broken them all. For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all (James 2:10). Guess what? You’ve broken them all. So, I ask again: are you cursed? Yes, you are cursed if Jesus Christ is not your Lord and Savior.
The Curse Breaker
Jesus is the curse breaker! Why and how? I’m glad you asked. Jesus is the curse breaker because He was cursed for those He came to save. Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangs on a tree (Galatians 3:13).
Jesus was cursed because He died on the cross. Christ Jesus, the sinless Son of God, the perfect One, the only One to keep all the commandments and never sinned one time, died a cursed death on behalf of guilty sinners like you and me. Jesus took the punishment that He did not owe. He was beaten beyond recognition. God poured His righteous anger, His wrath over sin upon His only begotten Son. Jesus endured the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual anguish while suffering and dying on that cruel cross.
Praise God, He rose victoriously from the grave three days later. Jesus defeated sin, death, Hell and Satan. God offers eternal life to each and every person that repents and puts their faith in Jesus. The Lord Jesus broke the curse! He is the curse breaker.
Are You Still Under The Curse?
Oh, but if you have not repented and surrendered your life to Jesus, then you are still under the curse. If you die in your sins, if you die as an unrepentant sinner, then you will remain under the curse for all eternity. If you die without Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, then you will remain a cursed person forever.
Why would you reject such a great of salvation? Why won’t you bow your knee and confess with your tongue that Jesus Christ is Lord? What sin do you love so much that you’re willing to let it drag you to Hell? Is it pride? Lust? Money? Drugs or alcohol? Sexual promiscuity?
Don’t continue racing down the broad road to destruction. Enter in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads unto life, and few there be that find it (Matthew 7:13-14).
Is God Convicting You Over Your Sin?
If God is convicting you tonight over your sinfulness and revealing His Holiness to you, don’t continue rebelling against God. Don’t continue pretending that you are in charge. You are not. God is the great giver and sustainer of life. You take your next breath only by the grace of God. Don’t continue saying, “No, God, I will not have this man reign over me.”
Repent! Repent! Repent! Turn from your sins and turn to the risen Lord. He broke the curse. You can receive eternal life. Your curse can be broken. But you must come to God His way, through repentance and faith in Jesus. We are to have repentance toward God and faith in our lord Jesus Christ (Acts 20:21). Come to Jesus tonight. Repent from your sins and submit your life to King Jesus.
O Death Where Is Your Sting?
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:53-57).
Jesus defeated death. He broke the curse. You don’t have to remain under your curse. Repent from your sins and surrender your life to Jesus. Recognize that you are a sinner. Confess your sins to God. Cry out for God to save you. Repent and believe the glorious Gospel.
Trust Jesus Christ. Trust in Christ alone, in His finished work on the cross. Put your trust in the one who broke the curse and be cursed no longer. He that believes on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believes not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abides on him (John 3:36).
