Apathy
Ministry Update October 11, 2015
Apathy. I could state this one word and end the update here. When Aaron and I witnessed at Missouri State University on Wednesday, we faced mainly apathetic students. Most students just walked by while we preached the Gospel in the open-air. More students refused tracts than took them. We mainly met apathy that day.
More Of The Same
Then on Friday night on the square in downtown Springfield, MO, it was more of the same. More people refused tracts than took them and most people were apathetic to the messages. There were a group of college students from Evangel University that were downtown that night handing out water and trying to get into conversations. We talked to one of the students named Justin because he came over and offered all of us water.
One of the women in our group handed him a handful of tracts for himself and to give to the other students. I asked Justin if he had any tracts to give out and he said no. He just wanted to show people the love of Jesus and tell them about His love. There’s nothing wrong with showing the love of Jesus to others (in fact we are to love our neighbor as we love ourselves), but if you give a man a bottle of water he will thirst again. Why not give him the Living Water where he will never spiritually thirst again? Why not do good deeds and share the Gospel at the same time?
Whether They Hear Or Forbear
We were blessed to have 11 or 12 people from Aaron’s church singing hymns and supporting us Friday night. We praised God and the Gospel went forth. God told Ezekiel in Ezekiel 2:7 And thou shalt speak my words unto them, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear: for they are most rebellious. I believe this command from God is just as true today as it was when He spoke to Ezekiel. We are to go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15). We are commanded to preach the Gospel. We are to preach it whether they will hear or whether they will forbear, but we are to preach the glorious Gospel.
(This update is being posted to encourage Christians to share their faith in Jesus Christ with others. You may never stand on a box on a street corner and preach, but you can share the Gospel with someone. Will you do this? Will you obey Jesus Christ our Lord?)
