A lot of people today believe in “live and let live.” Everyone can believe what they want to believe. It’s all relative. You believe what you want to believe and I’ll believe what I want to believe and we all just leave each other alone. You shouldn’t “push” your beliefs on others. You can do what you want as long as it feels good. You can do what you want as long as you aren’t hurting anyone else.
Do any of these sound familiar to you? They do to me. It seems like anything goes now days. The envelope gets pushed farther and farther all the time. Look at all the hot button issues right now. There is a real extreme range of beliefs and frankly, everyone believing what they want to believe can’t be right.
Why? Because they are polar opposites. You may worship the false “god” of pornography or child molestation. Or maybe you think its okay to steal something if you want to. Other people think it’s alright to drink and drive. Still other people pay good money for a doctor to murder a baby in the womb. These are just a handful of examples and they all go against Biblical Christian beliefs. Everyone doing what they want to can’t be right.
So what’s wrong with anything goes? It goes against God. Our Heavenly Father is righteous, Holy and just. When people do what they want to do, they are putting themselves in God’s place. They want to be in control. If this describes you, please ask yourself the following question: What sin in my life do I love more than God?
Folks, this is a holiness issue and a sin issue. The problem nowadays is that a lot of people don’t reverence God the way they should. A lot of people don’t fear God and they don’t have the proper respect for God. A lot of people make a false god that tolerates their sins. Their false god accepts them the way they are. This may ease their conscience in the short term, but it won’t work for eternity.
We are sinful creatures and we need to recognize that fact. Look at Peter’s reaction with his encounter with Jesus in Luke 5:8, “he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.” Or look at Isaiah’s reaction when he was in the presence of God in Isaiah 6:5, “Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.”
Do you think the average person recognizes their sinfulness? Especially when compared to the righteousness of God? I dare say most people do not see themselves in that light. Some people have never compared themselves to God’s Law, the 10 Commandments. When you do, you see your sinful nature when it’s compared to God’s perfect standard. When people do this, really do this, then they can truly cry out to God to have mercy on them. They react the way Peter and Isaiah did.
Please don’t continue doing what you please – enjoying the pleasures of sin for a season. Today is the day of salvation. Today is the day to get right with Lord. Cry out to God to save you. Turn away from your sins and put your trust in Jesus Christ our Lord. There’s no time like the present to get right with God. Repent and put your faith in Jesus. When you surrender your life to Him, it will no longer be anything goes, it will be everything goes. You replace your desires with His desires. Jesus will become your focal point in life. Your desire will be to please Him and to worship Him.
