Rich and I joined Aaron, Diana, Elise and Andre from witnessing on the square in downtown Springfield, MO last Friday night. The crowd was small, but we sang hymns and lifted up the glorious name of Jesus anyway. Overall it was pretty quiet night. We handed out a few tracts and while Rich was preaching, a couple walked up and stood near me. I tried to hand them tracts. Benjamin (Pictured above on the left) refused a tract and the woman next to him (also pictured above) backed up a little bit and told me to get the tract away from her or she would burn. (Actually she has it backwards. She will burn forever unless she repents and puts her trust in Jesus).
I tried to talk to Benjamin, but he was so prideful that he thinks that he is more morale than God. Can you imagine the hubris it takes to believe that you are more righteous than the great God of Heaven and earth? The same God who created you; who gives you every breath that you take? The same God that has provided all your needs even though you say He doesn’t exist? I’m not the quickest person with responses, but I guess I should have asked him how he could be more morale than the One he claims doesn’t even exist.
Anyway, the discussion pretty much went with me trying to get him to see his sinfulness and his need for a Savior while he kept spouting off foolishness. He believes that if he’s wrong and he does stand before God on Judgment Day that he will call God a name that I don’t want to print here. This young man doesn’t understand Zephaniah 1:7 where it says, Hold your peace at the presence of the Lord God. The young man’s mouth will be stopped on Judgment Day. He will hang his head in shame when God goes over every single sin that he’s ever thought, spoken and physically committed. He will be without excuse on the great and terrible day of the Lord.
Benjamin was angry, but the woman with him was really angry. She kept yelling at Rich while he preached. She kept yelling that he was telling lies. But she would stop every now and then and interject into discussion Benjamin and I were having. She said that we don’t need God to give us morality. I told her that she knows right from wrong because she has a God-given conscience, even if she doesn’t want to admit it. She shot back that society makes its own morality. I pointed out to her that the morality that we come up with stinks because ISIS is beheading people. I can’t remember what she mumbled about that before she started yelling at Rich again.
Aaron preached after Rich. The angry atheist woman kept yelling during his message, but he just preached over her. When Aaron was done, he got into a conversation with a not so angry atheist. So the rest of us sung hymns to end the night and Aaron was still talking to the young man even when the rest of us left. Aaron is a former atheist and he has a lot of patience with atheists. I pretty much just give them the Gospel and go on, but Aaron takes to the time to reason with them. May God convict the young man and bring him to repentance and faith in Jesus.

Earlier on Tuesday, Rich and I witnessed at Missouri State University. There were a lot of students there wearing purple shirts who were from Truman University. The clouds were threatening when I brought a message, but it didn’t rain until Rich preached. I was actually surprised at the number of students who still took tracts even in the rain. Most of the time the students are walking toward us and on past us, but I guess because of the rain, a small group of students stood next to a building right next to the free speech zone and they heard most of the message that Rich proclaimed. May God bless and multiply the tracts (have other people also read the tracts that were handed out) and may He convict unrepentant sinners over their sinful condition.
(Please note that when larger crowds walk by us, we are busy handing out tracts, so the pictures posted are usually taken during the slower times when there aren’t as many students walking by. These updates are being posted to encourage Christians to share their faith in Jesus Christ with lost souls. May God give followers of Jesus a real burden for the lost. May He continue seeking and saving the lost – working through believers such as yourself. If you are not a follower of Jesus Christ, please go to the Eternity tab.)
