Do you watch American Idol? I have watched it a few times and I’m always impressed with the talented singers who compete. I personally think it’s cruel how they make fun of some of the singers at the beginning of the season. But the competition really heats up by the end of the season.
Not only do we have American Idol singers, but I’m afraid that a lot of Americans have made themselves false gods or false idols in their own minds. This is a very serious thing to do. The Bible warns us that no idolator shall inherit the kingdom of Heaven in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10.
Why do I think a lot of American’s have made a false god or a false idol that they worship? Look at some of the Christian programs on t.v. as well as popular Christian books. A lot of the popular ones promote wealth, health and prosperity. People who only look to God for wealth, health and prosperity are making a false idol for themselves. They are coming to God for the wrong reasons. They are missing the other half of the Bible. The Bible clearly teaches that Christians, true Christians, true worshippers of the one true God are promised trials, temptations and persecutions. If you are worshipping the one true God it is going to possibly cost you some of your current relationships.
So please make sure you are worshipping the one true God (Exodus 20:3-5 and Luke 4:8). In Malachi 3:6 God says, “For I am the LORD, I change not.” God is everlasting to everlasting and He never changes. He is as much a God of Justice, Righteousness and Holiness as He is a God of Mercy, Love and Forgiveness. We should come to God for the right reasons. Instead of coming to God for what God can do for us (wealth, health and prosperity), we should come to God because we have sinned against Him. We need to ask him to forgive us for our sins and we need to turn away from our sins and put our faith in Jesus Christ. We need to quit trusting in the false gods we make for ourselves. We should love God because He first loved us. Please worship the one true God of the Bible, not a god that you imagine in your own mind that allows you to sin without regret. Let’s forsake our idols and worship our Holy God, the God who made heaven and earth.
