Ministry Update June 12, 2016
Amen Corner
I was going to call this Church on the Square, but we have church every Friday night in downtown Springfield. So I went with Amen Corner instead. Friday night Kelly, Steven, Aaron, Diana, Elise, Erica, Margaret and a couple of kids and I were witnessing downtown. We sang hymns, then Kelly and I brought messages before Aaron preached. About the time he started, another pastor sat down in front of us with several other people with him. They praised Jesus and said Amen the whole time Aaron preached. It was very encouraging.
We had a few mockers and scoffers, but not very many. We had a few strange sights, but overall not too bad. The man who lives upstairs in the old Heers’ building even walked by and didn’t even say anything. Kelly’s son Steven also quoted a Bible verse from memory after Kelly preached. Then Steven ran around the square and handed out tracts the whole night. The new tables and chairs on the square are great at bringing people to the square. It was great to lift up the name of Jesus through words and hymns. The Amen corner sang hymns with us to end the night and to that I say – Amen!
More For Than Against
Brian, Aaron and I witnessed outside of Planned Parenthood on Wednesday. As soon as we got there, several people came out of PP holding signs supporting them. By the time we finished up, I think there were seven of them. One young woman from the apartments behind PP came and stood with them. It was heartbreaking to see so many people standing in front of this one little Planned Parenthood, supporting the violent ripping apart of little babies.
Even sadder was a professing Christian that came out of PP condemning us for judging others (it always cracks me up that people condemn us and accuse us of condemning others). She said that she is against abortion and claims she even witnessed to the nurse that saw her. This woman claimed that PP was the only place in Springfield that could get her in. I told her that I didn’t believe her. There’s the pregnancy care center, walk in clinics, urgent care and the emergency room.
She told us that we were wrong to use megaphones to preach. Jesus would never do that according to this woman. I just kept taking her back to the fact that she supported PP even though she claims she’s against abortion. I explained to her that PP kills 900 babies every day across this nation and her money went to support that. She kept arguing that it didn’t, but it did. If the Bible tells to abstain from all appearances of evil (1 Thessalonians 5:22), how much more should we stay away from actual evil? I pray this woman moves on from professing Christ to truly surrendering her life to Him. May God grant her repentance and faith on our Lord and Savior.
