Kermit Gosnell is an abortionist who is on trial in Philadelphia for killing babies outside the womb. According to prosecutors, he took scissors and plunged them into the neck of the helpless babies as they struggled to live. I strongly disagree with Kermit Gosnell, I’m 100% against abortion. But I understand what he did. Again, I don’t agree with it. But if you think it’s OK to kill a child in the womb, why not kill one outside the womb? If your all right with one, why not the other?
Folks, this is very simple. A baby isn’t a clump of cells or a fetus when someone wants to have an abortion. It’s not just a fetus in the womb and then magically somehow transformed into a real live human being the second it’s out of the womb. A baby is a baby and child is a child. When have you ever heard a woman exclaim, “I’m pregnant; I’m going to have a fetus!” You can change the terminology all you want to, but a baby is a baby.
You know it is. No matter how much you don’t want it, or how much you don’t want it to be. A baby in the womb is a baby. In fact, a baby has a heartbeat just 18 days after conception. Science and medicine prove all the time that a baby is a baby whether in the womb or out of the womb. If you are considering having an abortion, please don’t. Go to the doctor and have an ultrasound done. You will see your baby and hear it’s heartbeat for yourself.
Proverbs 6:16-19 states, “These six things does the LORD hate: yes, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that devises wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brethren. Listen to this again, God hates this, it is an abomination to Him – those who shed innocent blood. Abortion is the shedding of innocent blood. Abortion is murder!
Not only does science and medicine back up the fact that it is actually a baby in the womb, the Bible backs it up too. Many places in the Bible it describes a pregnant woman as being “with child.” Exodus 21:22-25 says, “If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman’s husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life, Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.
In other words, if a man fights with a pregnant woman and it causes her to deliver her baby early, then the man had to pay the woman whatever her husband demanded him to pay. But if the man caused physical damage to the child, then he had to pay whatever he damaged. If the child died, then the man had to die. If the child lost a hand, then the man’s hand would be cut off.
Listen to these words from Matthew 1:18, “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.” God considers babies in the womb as being children!
In the Old Testament, God warned the Israelites not to follow the evil practices of the people in Canaan. The most horrific practice they did was sacrificing their children to the false god Molech. They burned their children as a sacrifice to this false god. The Bible says that God considered this an abomination. It was pure evil straight from Satan and modern day abortions are also pure evil straight from Satan. Over 53 Million babies have died since Roe vs Wade in 1973. 53 million innocent children have lost their lives for the sake of convenience , fear and selfishness.
God will not hold those blameless who shed innocent blood. It is an abomination to Him. Hebrews 9:27 states that “It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” We all are going to die. We can’t cheat death and we will all stand before God on Judgment Day. I would not want to be Kermit Gosnell on that great and terrible day. Nor would I want to be the evil judge who is presiding over the trial. Last week, the judge dismissed three of the seven murder charges and he gave no reason for the dismissals. He is a wicked, evil judge. He is an unjust judge.
How about you, have you ever had an abortion? Have you ever talked a woman into getting an abortion? Have you ever paid for one? Ever guilted someone into getting an abortion? Or driven a woman to an abortion clinic? How will you fare on Judgment Day? Or maybe you’re here tonight and you think that you are alright because you’ve never had anything to do with abortion. How will you do on Judgment Day?
Have you ever told a lie? We’ve all told lies before and if you’ve ever told a lie that makes you a liar. Revelation 21:8 says that “all liars will have their part in the lake of fire.” Have you ever stolen anything? Even if it was something small? Have you ever looked at someone’s answers while taking a test? If so, that’s stealing too. Taking anything that doesn’t belong to you makes you a thief? Have you ever used God’s name as a cuss word? If so, that’s blaspheme and the Bible says that God will not hold those guiltless who take His name in vain.
Have you ever committed murder? Have you ever had an abortion or had anything to do with an abortion? The Bible says that God sees anger without cause as the same thing as murder. He also sees hatred as the same thing as murder. So have you ever murdered someone in your heart, in your thoughts, wishing that they were dead?
We’ve only looked at four of the Ten Commandments and we are all guilty of breaking them. The Bible says that if you break one, you’ve broken them all. So would God send you to Heaven or Hell? The interesting thing is that right here most people say that they should go to Heaven. I assume that they think that because most people think that they are good. Think about it. You do what you do because you think it is right. We all have varying degrees of what we think is OK and what we think isn’t.
But God is Holy, righteous and just and he cannot tolerate sin. In Isaiah it says that our sins separate us from God. So please think about this tonight. Your sins have separated you from God and because He is a good judge and a just judge, He must punish sin. So if you die in your sin and stand before God on Judgment Day, you will foolishly be representing yourself. The Bible says that you will have nothing to say – no excuse for yourself. When you stand before God your mouth will be stopped. Then you will realize your sinfulness as compared to God’s Holiness. But it will be too late.
So if you died tonight and then you stood before God on Judgment Day and He judged you by the Ten Commandments, you would be found guilty and sentenced to Hell for all of eternity. In Matthew 13, Jesus said that at the end of the age, He will send forth His angels and they will gather out all those who offend, those who committed iniquities and they will cast them into the furnace of fire. Iniquity is another name for sin.
Hell is real and Jesus described it as place where there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. He also described it as a place where the worm dies not, and the fire is never quenched. Folks, we are not part of a hate group. We are out here out of love. God first loved us and He saved us and we are out here warning people to flee from the wrath to come. The times of this ignorance God winked at, but now commands all men everywhere to repent because He has appointed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness.
If your conscience is bothering you tonight, then I’m happy to tell you that there is Good News. God sent Jesus to walk this earth a little over 2,000 years ago. Jesus humbled Himself and came to this earth. He was born in a manger. Jesus never sinned in His thoughts, words or actions. Jesus never lied, He never stole anything, He never lusted after anyone and He never coveted anything. He perfectly did the will of God the Father. The Bible says that we are to love God with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength. Jesus did that! He always did what God wanted Him to do.
Jesus willingly gave up His life for guilty sinners. The Roman soldiers beat Him beyond recognition. They also beat him with 39 lashes across His back. They nailed Him to the cross where He hung there for six torturous hours. Lifting Himself up every time that He took a breath. He died there, was buried and on the third day He rose from the grave. Jesus defeated sin, Hell, death and Satan.
But it’s not enough just to intellectually know this story. Jesus died for guilty sinners who turn away from their sins and put their trust in Him. You must receive the gift of salvation. If I had $20 here and I said I want to give this to you, it would do you no good to stand there and look at the $20 in my hand. You would have to walk over to me and if I handed it to you, then it would be yours. God offers salvation to those who repent and put their faith in Jesus. Salvation is the free gift from God. (Ephesians 2:8-9). For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23). For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).
We are all sinners and there is nothing we can do on our own to get back right with God. We can’t undo our sins. Let’s say you lived your whole life and all you ever told was one little white lie. That doesn’t seem so bad, but you can never undo that one little white lie. You can’t erase it and you can’t cover it up. It can’t be undone by you. God is so Holy that even one little white lie would separate you from God for all of eternity if you die as an unrepentant, unbeliever.
Please recognize that God is Holy and you are not. I pray that God opens your blind spiritual eyes and that He unhardens your hard heart. That He gives you a heart of flesh. I pray that God convicts you of your sins and that He gives you a measure of faith in Jesus and repentance toward God. Cry out to God to save you. Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Repent and believe the Gospel.
Only the shed blood of Jesus Christ can wash away your sins. Only the perfect sacrifice of Jesus can make you whole again. You can’t clean your wicked heart, but Jesus can. You can’t cover your sins or hide them, but the precious blood of Jesus can. No matter how vile of sinner you are, Jesus can save you. Even if you’ve had an abortion, Jesus can cleanse you. If you’ve helped someone get an abortion, Jesus can save you. Even if you’ve only hated someone or been angry without cause, Jesus can cleanse you of that anger, hatred and bitterness.
Turn to Jesus tonight. Don’t continue down the broad road to destruction. Jesus said enter in at the straight gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction and many there be which go in thereat. But straight is the gate and narrow is the way which leads to life, and few there be that find it.
If Jesus is not your Lord and Savior, then you are a dead man walking. You are spiritually dead. We are only made alive in Jesus Christ. The Bible says that when God saves us the old nature passes away and we become a new creature. Jesus said that we must be born again. We have to be born of the Spirit in addition to our natural birth. Salvation is supernatural. God sends you the Holy Spirit when He saves you.
Jesus is very exclusive. He said, “I am the way, the truth and the life and no man comes to the Father but by me.” In Acts 4:12 it says, “Neither is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven, given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Come to the end of yourself. Give up your pride and come to Jesus. God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Cry out to God, Oh God have mercy on me a sinner. Then turn away from your sins and put your faith in Jesus. Only Jesus saves, but you must receive the gift of salvation. Repent and believe the Gospel.
Do not be deceived, no fornicator, adulterer, idolater, homosexual, drunkard, thief, covetous person shall enter into the kingdom of Heaven. You must turn away from your sins and surrender your life fully to Christ. Then God will give you His desires and show you His ways when you read the Bible. Do not be deceived. God is angry with you over your sins. You’ve heard the saying “love the sinner, hate the sin.” That’s unbiblical!
The Bible says that God is angry with you over your sins. John 3:36 states, “He that believes on the Son has everlasting life; and he that believes not the Son, shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” The Bible also says that Jesus was the propitiation for our sins. He was our substitute, he was our atonement. But it was more than that. Propitiation means the wrath was satisfied. God poured His anger, His wrath out on Jesus while He hung on the cross. God didn’t hate Jesus, He hates sin that much that He poured His wrath out on the prefect, innocent One for sinners like you and me. Imagine feeling His wrath on Judgment Day when He sends you to Hell if you die an unbeliever, because of your sins. Not for anyone else’s sins, but your own.
Don’t foolishly take full wrath of God against you on Judgment Day. You are guilty and you alone for your sins and if you die an unrepentant sinner, then you will be under the wrath of God and you will receive His justice. Eternity is forever. Remember that Jesus said that Hell is a place of torment, where there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. It won’t be the party place that so many people mistakenly think that it will be. In Revelation 14:11 it says that the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever. There will be no rest day or night.
Come to Jesus. Turn away from your sins and put your trust in Him. Then Jesus will represent you on Judgment Day. You are guilty of your sins, but Jesus pays your fine…if you repent and put your faith in Him. What sin in your life do you love so much that you are willing to suffer in Hell for all eternity over? Turn away from your sins, submit your life to Jesus. Follow Him and obey Him from this night forward and receive forgiveness for your sins. Receive the free gift of salvation, the costly gift to Jesus, but it’s free to you. Repent and believe the Gospel. Do this tonight.
