Doesn’t Take A Lot Of People To Worship God
Ministry Update March 26 2017
Friday night was a rainy night, but we realized that it doesn’t take a lot of people to worship God. Kelly, Aaron, Erica, Elise, Serenity and I had a wonderful time worshiping God even though there weren’t a lot of people on the square. We sang hymns and us guys preached. We had a great time lifting up the precious name of Jesus and I think we must have sang around eight hymns. Glory to God.
While we were singing hymns a guy pulling a suitcase walked up to us and said that he’d like a sandwich. Aaron told him what he tells everyone that says they are hungry “stick around for about an hour and after we get through preaching I’ll take you to McDonalds.” Over the years I’ve seen him make this offer many times, but more times than not it ends just like it did Friday night, with the person that says they are hungry walking away and not coming back. Evidently it shows that they are asking for food, but what they really want is money. It’s really sad.
Even If Nothing Came Of The Tracts Or The Preaching
A different guy came up and stood near us while Kelly, Aaron and I all brought messages. He took a tract from us, but didn’t really talk much. But he clearly heard the Gospel. Other people walked around the square and through the square throughout the night. We also know from past experience that many people in the apartments downtown also hear the Gospel. Erica kept her umbrella handy and she was quick to hand out tracts whenever someone got near us. Even if nothing came of the tracts or the preaching, we still worshiped God and we really had a blessed time singing and preaching. We hope that our gracious Heavenly Father was pleased.
Open-Air Preaching Leads To Conversations
I can’t tell you how many times people have told us that open-air preaching is ineffective, that you don’t need to preach in the open in America, but on Wednesday Brian, Aaron and I all witnessed what we’ve seen many times in the past: open-air preaching leads to conversations. Brian and I both had someone stop and talk to us while we were preaching. Really just short conversations.
One Listener Draws Other Listeners
But Aaron had a long conversation with the same man he talked to two weeks ago. In fact, this gentleman sat down on the bench while Aaron preached and two other young men came and sat down beside him and listened to the sermon. We also handed out eight New Testaments and several Gospel of John booklets as well as some tracts. May God use the tracts and His Word to save lost souls. Oh how we hope and pray that this young generation wakes out of their slumber and submits to King Jesus. Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light (Ephesisans 5:14).
