If you are not a follower of Jesus, I encourage you to go to Where Will You Spend Eternity or Ten Commandments. If you are my brother or sister in Christ, then I want to ask you: What are you abiding in today? What are you abiding in? Are you caught up in yourself? Are you caught up in others? Are you caught up in the riches of this world? Are you caught up in the cares of this world? What has your heart? Right now?
I’m asking you these questions because my desire is to be filled with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18), to be led by the Spirit (Romans 8:14), to rest in God (Exodus 33:14) and to abide in Christ (John 15:4). Am I here yet? Not even close. But this is my desire. My desire is to pray more. Be filled more. Be used by God more. But I have to admit that I don’t pray as I should. Sometimes I get caught up in the cares of this world. I get so busy being busy (even serving the Lord) that my spiritual life is negatively impacted.
Abide In Christ
Oh, may I learn to abide in my Lord and Savior – Jesus Christ. Andrew Murray once said, “It is as I abide daily, deeply in Jesus the crucified One, that I will taste the sweetness of His love, the power of His life, the completeness of His salvation.” Do these words speak to you as they do to me? Am I abiding daily, deeply in Jesus? Am I tasting the sweetness of His love? The power of His life? The completeness of His salvation?
When reading this quote, it made me think that when I am not abiding in Christ as I should, I’m not hurting Jesus. He is already Lord of lords and King of kings. No, when I’m not abiding in Him as I should, I’m short changing myself. Yes, I’m a blood bought child of God. I’ve been born again. I am eternally saved. But sometimes I’m missing out on my relationship with Him. I stumble and fall because my eyes aren’t on the One who paid my sin debt. I’m missing out on the completeness of His salvation. I miss out every time I’m abiding in something else besides my Lord and Savior. This post is probably more for me than for anyone else this week, but I wanted to share this with you and ask you to examine yourself and see: what are you abiding in?
