I Was Married To A Man

Ministry Update October 28, 2025

Justin and I witnessed downtown last Friday night in Springfield, MO. He handed a tract to a guy I’ll call “D”. D gladly took the tract and asked if we wanted to hear his testimony. Justin told him sure. D proceeded to tell us that he was raised by his alcoholic mother. Sounded like he had a rough childhood. So when he got the chance, he joined the Army and told us “I was married to a man for four years.” Evidently, he was a paratrooper in the Army and ended up getting hurt when his chute didn’t properly open.

D proceeded to tell us that he ended up with some broken bones and sounded like he had a near death experience. He ended up coming back to Springfield to heal up. He told us that when he got back here, that his mother had surrendered her life to Jesus and was cleaned up and was praying for D. He said at some point he asked God to save him. Justin asked him a few questions and shared some truth with him. D admitted that he wasn’t attending church regularly, so Justin highly encouraged him to go back to church and reminded D that we aren’t to neglect gathering with fellow believers (Hebrews 10:25). I asked him if he had a Bible and he said that he did. Justin also encouraged him to read it daily.

Prior to that encounter, we were both surprised that people were lined up outside of the Gillioz Theatre about an hour before show time for the Rocky Horror Picture Show. The theater had already shown it earlier this year, so we were surprised to see people lined up half way down the block and then they turned a corner and were still about a half a block the other direction. Many of the people in line were dressed up for the show. Justin finally surmised that maybe it was because it was so close to Halloween. Regardless of why there were so many people waiting to get in, we were grateful for the crowd and a good number of them took Gospel tracts.

Eight Laborers at Missouri State University on October 22, 2025

Praise God that there were eight of us witnessing at MSU on Wednesday. Allen and I were joined by Loretta, Robin, Mike, John and Lloyd. Allen sang some worship songs and him and I both brought messages. Everyone else handed out Gospel tracts. We had an encourager and a few vocal atheists. But we had a great time witnessing. A blonde atheist listened to most of my message and then most of Allen’s message. After I finished, I tried to hand her a tract, but she refused. She wouldn’t really talk. Later on, Lloyd talked to her and she told him that she’s an atheist and doesn’t believe what we are saying. Then later on, she walked back up to Lloyd and talked to him again. We pray that God will soften her heart.

While Allen was open-air preaching, I was handing out tracts near the Plaster Student Union. Right before I had to head back to work, I noticed a large crowd near the Bear Paw statue. So I walked over and started handing out tracts. One of the students told me that they were all in high school and they were visiting MSU on a field trip when I asked her what group they were with. I kept handing out tracts and ended up near the two teachers that were leading the group. I just told them both that we are out here every Wednesday and the students might as well get used to us if they decide to go to MSU. Surprisingly, the teachers didn’t say anything about the students receiving the tracts and both teachers took one!

Allen, Dan And I The Week Before At MSU

None of our group made it downtown witnessing the Friday before last, but Allen, Dan and I did witness at MSU on October 15, 2025. We had a couple of encouragers. Allen and I brought messages and Dan spoke truth to the students in between our open-air preaching. Allen has someone in his group that has donated some nice study Bibles and he handed one of those out. Because they are expensive and nicer than the normal give away Bibles, Allen offers the study Bibles to students, but he questions them on their sincerity about wanting one. May God bless the student that took one and may God save the student and set that student on fire for the Lord.

These updates are provided to encourage fellow believers to share the glorious Gospel with others.

You Can’t Bust This Ghost

Ministry Update October 14, 2025

Doug and I witnessed downtown Springfield, MO Friday night and it was a strange night. We walked around downtown and handed out several tracts. But when we got to Jefferson and Walnut, there were flashing lights on a couple of cars across the street from us. At first, we thought maybe they were police cars, but eventually we figured out that they weren’t. They were a couple of Ghostbuster vehicles with lights flashing and several people were standing around in their Ghostbuster outfits.

The costumes were quite elaborate. One guy was “using” his ghost busting equipment on one of the statutes downtown. Several other ones were standing near their flashing cars. After a few minutes, I suggested we go over and talk to them. I walked up to a guy who seemed to be in charge and he told me they were there for 1984 (an arcade amusement business) – promoting the business. This wasn’t the response that I expected, so I didn’t feel like I could get into the conversation with him that I originally intended. So I just said something like it’s ironic that you all are out here busting ghosts, while we are out here sharing the Holy Ghost. You can’t bust this Ghost. The guy agreed with me. He and the young lady working beside him both took tracts.

You Got The Hell Part Right

Ministry Update October 7, 2025

Allen, four people from his church (including his pastor) and I witnessed at Missouri State University on October 1, 2025. Allen and Ben – a pastor brought messages and we handed out Why Christianity booklets from Living Waters. Most of the students were very pleasant and most of them took one. Allen had one encourager while he was open-air preaching.  One student told me, “I don’t want your God.” I replied, “Jesus is the only Savior. That’s why we plead with people to repent and trust Jesus.”

Then another student asked what I was handing out and I told him it was a Gospel tract, that it tells you about Jesus. He replied, “Hell no.” I replied, “You have the Hell part right. We don’t want you to die in your sins and go to Hell. Repent and believe the Gospel.” But overall, it was a very pleasant time of witnessing and we handed out around 300 booklets. One funny thing that happened was Allen blew his Shofar horn and I guess it wasn’t allowed at the spot we were at because of classes next door. But someone saw it in his hand and mistakenly thought it was a weapon, so security came over and talked to us. One of the security guards is an old high school classmate of mine, so we caught up a little bit and they just told  Allen that he couldn’t blow his horn.

A Lot Going On Downtown Friday Night

Doug, Justin and I witnessed downtown Friday night October 3, 2025. The police had the street blocked off at Jefferson and St. Louis St., where we normally meet and there was a DJ with a loud speaker at the park and some kind of art work in one of the parking lots as well as a skate park in another lot. It was really loud there (and the flashing lights bothered Doug and I), so we walked around and handed out tracts. A few people were lined up outside The Regency, so we handed out some tracts there.

We walked around downtown and handed out tracts as we went. When we walked back by The Regency, the crowd was now backed up about a block and a half. So we handed out more tracts and I just lifted up the Bible and did basically stoplight preaching as I walked by the crowd. Several people said Amen (and seemed serious). Toward the end of the line, one girl said Hallelujah (but seemed to be mocking). I asked the crowd who they were waiting to see and a girl yelled out, “Lil Skies.” She said that he’s a rapper. I have no idea who he is, but he seemed very popular. Overall, it was a good night and several tracts went out.

Open Air For The First Time

On September 26, 2025, Brad, Doug, Justin and I witnessed downtown. Immediately Brad got into a conversation on the square with another veteran and they talked for about 45 minutes. It had been quite a while since Brad had been out with us, but it was great having him there and we praise God for the conversation. There was a guy who appeared to be high, dancing at the stage area where we normally preach when we do so on the square. Thankfully, Doug noticed him, so I went to a different corner and brought a message there. Shortly after that, Mark and Dave showed up and they were handing out bottles of water. I showed Mark how to open-air preach the week before and praise God, he stood up and brought a message this time. It was encouraging to me, so I brought another message after he finished up.

Doug and Justin handed out tracts downtown like we normally do. After Doug left and I was heading back to my vehicle, I heard a guy cussing loudly. It turns out that it was dancing guy who was high and may have even had some demonic activity going on. I just ignored him and kept walking to my vehicle. But he was near Justin and Justin was handing out tracts. He said the yelling guy was scaring everyone around them, so Justin said most of the people took tracts from him. We praise God for that, for Brad’s long conversation and for Mark’s first time open-air preaching. May God be glorified in all of this.

(These updates are given to encourage Christians to share the glorious Gospel with others. Jesus told us to pray for more laborers and He also commanded us to go and preach the Gospel. Every believer should be sharing their faith in Jesus with others. We hope and pray that these updates encourage you to do so.)
