Yet Jesus Saves Us Anyway

Ministry Update November 29, 2020

Friday night, there were two young men that mocked the open-air preaching as they walked away. Right after that, a couple crossed the street to the left of me and the woman mocked as they crossed. I don’t know if she felt more emboldened because of the other mockers or if she still would have done so even if they weren’t around. But I’ve seen it many times before where people are more bold in mocking when they see others or join in when others are mocking. I think it’s just a mob mentality sort of thing. But the comment of the night wasn’t from a mocker. No, it was from a young man that was walking his dog and when he got right in front of me he said, “Yet Jesus saves us anyway.”

I had just quoted Matthew 7:13-14 where Jesus says “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Jesus says that many are headed for Hell and few are headed for Heaven. This was the point I was making and I was pleading with people to come to Jesus. This is when the young man said, “Yet Jesus saves us anyway.” So I pointed out to him that there is not universal salvation. We must come to Jesus His way – through repentance and faith. Unfortunately, the young man kept walking his dog, so I didn’t get a chance to talk to him further.

After I finished the message, I told Keven that I heard music and wondered if something was going on at the square. We grabbed some Gospel tracts and headed that direction. Before we got there, we realized that one of the bars had a live performer and they had an amplifier outside the bar. That was where the music was coming from. When we got the square, it was empty. So we walked about a 2 block area downtown and handed out tracts while we had a great discussion about Judas (who betrayed Jesus).

Wednesday was the day before Thanksgiving, so there weren’t any classes at MSU.

Talk Too Much About Hell

Talk Too Much About Hell

I’ve been told many times that I talk too much about Hell. Guilty as charged and I don’t plan on changing this. Why? Ray Comfort says that when a doctor tells you that he has a cure for an incurable disease, you just kind of go “uh-huh” and don’t really pay attention. But if the doctor tells you have a deadly disease and there’s nothing you can do about it. Then he describes the disease to you in great detail, your ears perk up. Now you are interested in what the doctor is saying. After the doctor explains this in great details and again says there’s no cure, he further tells you that he sold his possessions and found a cure for you. The doctor doesn’t have to go into great detail about the cure. You immediately want that cure! [Read more…]

Mocking To Not Mocking Back To Mocking

Ministry Update November 22, 2020

While I was open-air preaching Friday night, a guy drove by and yelled before he pulled into the parking lot across from Keven and I. So I told the young man that he wasn’t mocking me, but that he was actually mocking God and worse yet, he was storing up more wrath against the day of wrath (Romans 2:5). The driver stopped at the exit and said that he wasn’t mocking me, that he actually supports what I’m doing. So I apologized to him. Immediately, he pulled out and said the f-word and a string of other cusswords as he drove away. So the guy went from mocking to not mocking back to mocking again. [Read more…]

Foolishness

Foolishness

When you hear the word foolish, what do you think of? Stupid? Ignorant? Lacking of knowledge? A foolish person is someone that is unwise or uses bad judgment. The biblical meaning of foolishness is absurdity or folly (according to the 1828 Webster’s Dictionary). The Bible actually talks about preaching of Christ Jesus and Him crucified as appearing like foolishness to the world. So I ask you tonight, does our lifting up the Lord Jesus out here on the streets sound like foolishness to you? [Read more…]

How Can God Know Evil Since He Is Perfect?

Ministry Update November 15, 2020

Toward the end of my message at MSU on Wednesday, a young man sat on a bench near me. I was explaining how most people think they are good, even though the Bible says none of us are good. The young man yelled what if he admits that he’s evil? Since he stated this nonchalantly, while eating a banana, I told him that it appeared that it would be false modesty in his case. I’ve been street witnessing for 10 years and I’ve seen a few people broken over their sins, but this young man wasn’t one of them. But it started our conversation and the young man went from emphatically saying God isn’t real to asking the question, “How can God know evil since He’s perfect?” [Read more…]

Judge Yourselves Unworthy

Judge Yourselves Unworthy

The Apostle Paul went to Antioch in Pisidia and shared the Gospel with the Jews in the Synagogue. After he had done so, the Jews there rejected the salvation that is found in Jesus Christ alone and Paul says to them: “You judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life.” Strong words from the apostle. The Jews in Antioch in Pisidia had judged themselves unworthy of everlasting life. [Read more…]

Non-Christians Take New Testaments

This Last Week Was About Bibles

Ministry Update November 8, 2020

Yes, I brought messages at Missouri State University on Wednesday as well as downtown Friday night. At MSU, I chuckled when two girls walked in front of me and one looked over and said, “Yak, yak, yak” and then went back to talking to her friend. I couldn’t understand another mocker at the university. Downtown, a young man stopped and recorded while I was reading John Chapter 3. He walked by and said “God bless.” Another young man stood across the street and listened to part of the message. But the real story was Bibles. Yes, this last week was about Bibles. I thank God for the students that took New Testaments on Wednesday and I thank God for the people who took them downtown. [Read more…]

Free And Costly

Free And Costly At The Same Time

How can something be free and costly at the same time? I’m glad you asked. Salvation through Jesus Christ is both costly and free. Salvation is the free gift from God. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast (Ephesians 2:8-9). For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23). Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior (Titus 3:5-6). Homeless Guy Asked For A Bible

Ministry Update November 1, 2020

The weather was great Friday night. Conner and I both brought messages and Keven joined us later to help hand out Gospel tracts. I don’t remember having any mockers. Conner had a couple of them. It was great having Keven join us. He handed out tracts caddie-corner from Conner and I. While Conner was open-air preaching, a homeless guy came up to me and asked for a Bible. I gladly handed him one. Conner, Keven and I had a great time visiting when we weren’t handing out tracts.

One Bicycle Mocker On A Rainy Day

It wasn’t raining when I drove to Missouri State University on Wednesday and didn’t start raining until I started open-air preaching. The wind was cold and students didn’t want to stop and talk. So I just brought a message that day. About half-way through a student rode by on is bicycle and mouthed off as he went by. I was pleading with students to turn from their sins and turn to Christ. So I just continued pleading with students and said, “Don’t continue mocking God whether you do so verbally out loud like the guy on the bicycle just did or if you are mocking God with your life – by your words and your actions.” Also pleaded with students to not reject such a great salvation. The salvation that is found in Jesus Christ alone.

(These updates are given to encourage Christians to share their faith in Jesus with others. The results are up to God. Salvation is of the Lord. He calls us to share the Gospel with others. Jesus told us to go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature – Mark 16:15. Yes, all believers are to share the Gospel. Christian are you being obedient to Christ? Don’t know what to say or do? Buy some Gospel tracts. I recommend Living Waters and Chapel Library. Just walk up to someone offer a tract and say, “Did you get one of these?” By not asking a yes or no question, you have a better chance of someone actually taking one. But whether they accept or reject, salvation is of the Lord. Keep offering tracts, no matter how many rejections you receive. May Jesus Christ our Lord be glorified above all else.)
