Matt Chandler is correct. Humanity’s problem is not materialistic or physical needs; it is a sin problem. We sin against a Holy God (Genesis 39:9; 2 Samuel 12:13). Unbelievers, love their sins. They do what they want to do because they are living for themselves (Jeremiah 18:12). The Bible says that there is none righteous, no not one. There is none that does good. There is none that seeks after God. Are you saved? Have you turned away from your sins – repented (Luke 5:32) and put your trust in Jesus Christ alone to save you? (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Some professing Christians claim Jesus Christ as their Savior, but their hearts are far from Him (Isaiah 29:13). They also continue in their sins. Don’t get me wrong, I do not believe in sinless perfectionism. But when you are truly saved, you should hate the sins you once love and love the God you once hated. 1 John 2:15 states Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. So who do you love? Do you love God? Do you love Him with all your heart, soul, mind and strength?
Christian: Do you still dabble around with sin? Do you say to yourself, I can have one drink or it won’t hurt me to watch this show or that movie? If you are still tempted by the sins you once loved, ask God to protect you from those temptations. Then, don’t go near them. If you are tempted by alcohol, don’t go near the alcohol section in the stores. If you are tempted by pornography, stay off the computer! Don’t put yourself in situations to give into temptations.
Also, keep your focus on God. Follow the prompting of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:24-25). Live and walk in the Spirit. If you are singing praises to God, reading the Bible and praying, you can’t be out committing the sins you once loved. Keep your focus on Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
Do you claim Jesus as your Savior but continue living your life as if you are in control? Have you surrendered your life fully and completely to our Lord Jesus Christ? Is He Lord of your life? Do you wake up daily and deny yourself, pick up your cross and follow Him? Or do you continue sinning against our Holy Father? God said for us to be holy because He is Holy (1 Peter 1:16). Are you holy? Are you wholly living your life for God?
