 The Next Big Thing

posted by Dennis on January 16, 2012 17:15 as General

What is the next big thing in your life that you are waiting for? What's next? A lot of people spend their whole lives looking forward to the next big event - the next big thing in their life. They are so busy looking forward that they are missing what's happening to them today.

For example, kids look forward to being a teenager. Young teenagers look forward to being 16 so they can drive. High school age kids can't wait to get out of high school. A lot of young people can't wait until they are 21. Then people start looking forward to graduating college, getting a job, getting married, having kids, getting promotions at work and finally retirement. A lot of people spend a lot of time thinking, planning and expecting great things to happen at some point in the future.

So what are they missing? What is that hole that they can't fill up? Why can't they be happy with what's going on in their life right now? If you are waiting around for the next big event in your life, you are putting your hope in the wrong thing. The next thing (whatever that is) will never satisfy. You will get bored with it or it won't live up to your expectations. Your hope is in the wrong thing.

What is the right the thing to put your hope in? That's an easy answer. You need to put your hope in Jesus Christ our Lord (1 Peter 1:3). Jesus is the only true Savior (1 Cor. 3:11). If your focus is on Jesus, you won't spend your time worrying about the next big thing in your life.

The more you learn about Jesus, the more you want to learn. The more you love Jesus, the more you become amazed that He saved a sinner such as yourself and you love him even more.

If you are unsaved, get right with God today. Repent and follow Jesus fully and completely (Acts 20:21). If you are already saved, surrender to the Savior even more. Pick up your cross daily and follow Him (Luke 9:23). Share the Good News of Jesus wherever you go (Acts 5:42). Don't live for the next big thing. Live for Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior today and every day for the rest of your life.
